James Webb telescope position off
Dear developers,
On Jan 3 I tried observing the James Webb space telescope with Skysafari 6 Pro as reference. However the object didn't show up at the predicted location. I was on a 16 inch Dobsonian, and stars as faint as mag 16.5 were visible in my view. According to latest news the space telescope should be shining at mag 14, well within my detection limits.
Later I generated a set of emphemeris on JPL Horizon ( https://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/horizons/app.html#/ ) and found the prediction to be quite different from Skysafari. I can't seem to post screenshots showing the difference so I'll just list the respective predicted positions:
JPL Horizons(ICRF): 06h 21m 47.22s +00° 37' 57.6"
Skysafari(J2000): 06h 23m 33.41s +00° 14' 47.8"
FYI my observing location's coordinates are 44.192°N 121.536°E. Observing time around 15:00 UT Jan 3, 2022.
Best regards,
Jia Hao
