Unstable, jittering Display of Sky Safari 5 and Sky Safari 6 Pro on Samsung Note 9 mobile phone

Unfortunately, I have stopped using Sky Safari Pro 6 since it displays a shockingly unstable image on my Samsung Note 9 phone. No other planetarium app on my phone does this. Sky Safari 5 is equally unstable, with the display jittering erratically from left to right, rendering it useless as a night sky observing aid.

I wrote about this a long time ago, but no solution was forthcoming. My phone has Android version 10 software.

How can you explain this instability?

    Richard,

Settings > Appearance and Behavior > Tilt to Use Compass > uncheck this option.

    Does that help?

    Thanks for your feedback!

    Hi Keiron,

Thanks for the suggestion. However, the 'Tilt to Use Compass' option was already unchecked. I have tried everything, even changing the display resolution of my phone - all to no avail. I have friends with android phones and none of them have this problem. In addition to the jittering, the display often shows the same star name 3 times, crowding the screen with names! Unfortunately, all of this makes me very reluctant to upgrade when I get a Samsung S8+, since the same thing might happen then.

    Richard,

Have you tried resetting to factory defaults?  If not, please do.

Also, please try reinstalling the app.

Your app is in a strange state that can be fixed by one of the above.

    Thanks!

    Hi Keiron,

Thanks for your suggestions. I am reluctant to do a factory reset on my phone as it warns you that all apps will be uninstalled. However, there is a 'Reset Settings' option; don't know if that will work?

As for reinstalling the app, how do I do this without knowledge of the licence/registration number? Would I would have to buy the app again?

    Cheers,

    Richard

    Hey Richard

I'm guessing Keiron wasn't suggesting a factory reset on your device but rather resetting the app to factory defaults. You can do this by going to Settings > Save & Restore Settings > Revert Chart to Factory Defaults.

For the app reinstallation, just go to the play store, go to your profile, manage apps and device, manage, check the box next to the app and use the trash can icon. You will be able to find your purchases in your profile to reinstall it and never have to pay a second time for the same app.

    Good luck!

    Hi Chris and Keiron,
I did as you suggested with resetting the app to the factory default settings but it was no different. So I followed suggestion 2, uninstalled the app, reinstalled with the 1.898Gb update, reset it again to factory default, and once again started the app. As soon as I pressed the compass icon, the jitters returned and the whole display became unusable.

Could there be something wrong with my phone's internal settings? Its gyro, for example? The same thing happens with my Sky Safari 5, by the way. Very strange.

    Thanks for your help.

    Cheers,
    Richard
