[Scope Control]* Celestron WiFi Does Not Track After Alignment (Solution: Fixed In Latest App Update)

Celestron Astrofi, Skysafari 7 pro, (and Skyportal), using celestron wifi thru access point, sidereal tracking enabled, 8 AA batteries.

After a successful alignment on 3+ objects the scope will slew to a selected object with a goto command but will remain stationary there after. The display shows the object moving away from the scope position.

Is there something else that has to be enabled?

    Bob,

Please check this issue using the Celestron SkyPortal app.

Confirm the issue does not show up when using SkyPortal, and that it does show up when you switch to SS7.

    Thanks!

    Hi Keiron

Yes, I have the same issue in skyportal.

    Yesterday I found this:

    https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/482226-evolution-troubleshoot-goto-works-but-tracking-failure/

Note in particular the last comment, the bit missing above is that after each goto I centred and added the target to the alignment.  I did try the solution given yesterday afternoon and it seemed to work, I could see from the movement of the red dot on the wall that it was tracking. However, last night while using the scope I could not induce this behavior no matter how many times I turned tracking off and to sidereal targets simply drifted out of view. Hit goto again and they centred.

    Thanks

    Bob,

That CN discussion is nearly 7 years old and not relevant anymore.

    However, please check the following...

In SS7 > Scope > Celestron settings (tap the Celestron icon) > Tracking Rate > what is selected?  Switch to Sidereal (if it is not selected) and check your tracking again.

    Thanks!

    Bob,

    1. Please attach a photo of the Celestron WiFi module.
    2. When did you buy it?
    3. From where?

    Thanks!

    Bob,

This issue was fixed by developers some time ago.

Please make sure you are running the latest version of SkySafari.

Update your app and test again.

    Thanks!

I just upgraded from 7.1.6 to 7.1.7 and I have the same issue still - the workaround of turning tracking off/on did not work either

    Ed,

Please download Celestron's SkyPortal app (free), let us know if you have the same issue with that app - it is a cut down version of SkySafari, and used by tens of thousands of Celestron WiFi users to control their scopes.

    Thanks!
