On screen keyboard will not accept any presses when in nightmode.

The onscreen keyboard gets partially covered with a red rectangle, leaving just the very top not exposed to this reddening. No presses are registered within the red rectangle. The small strip that is uncovered ( mine has numerals at the top) will accept button presses. When night mode is disabled, keyboard works as expected.

I have tried using the sky safari 7 keyboard in the SYSTEM settings- keyboard layout.    It does not change the keyboard in anyway i can tell.  

I cannot unselect the google keyboard as it's option is grayed out.
