How To Use SkySafari 7 Pro For Telescope Control Alongside ASIAir Pro? (Answer: Toggle Between Both Apps Using SS7 For Reference And AAP For GoTo - Read On!)

Dear Sky Safari Team,

Is there any way in which you can link Sky Safari 7 Pro Telescope control through the ASI Air Pro so the ASI Air Pro still does the plate solve in the ASI Air Pro app at the same time as Sky Safari 7 Pro app updates the goto location? Also, is it possible to configure ASCOM or Alpaca to link Sky Safari to control the mount mount in tandem with ASI Air Pro telescope control? Basically, I want to use the ASI Air Pro for plate solving, guiding, and imaging and Sky Safari 7 Pro as my  goto and object planetarium control and monitoring.

Clear Skies and Keep Looking Up and Enjoying the Journey!

Cheers!

Cameron

    Cameron,

    Please see this discussion here:

[Scope Control]* SS7 Loses Connection To ASIAIR Pro When Apps Are Switched (Testing Beta)

Perhaps Skaiser3 Wilfried Noell and Chris Lee can offer you guidance based on their experience with SS7 and ASIAIR.

    Thanks!

Cameron - The AAP prefers to be fully responsible for GOTO and Plate-solving inside its own software. The last version has a map function that lets you chose targets on a sky chart and "GOTO" as we do in SS7. However the AAP is still quite limited in the mapping and observing dept so I open up both apps and toggle between them. I usually check out a target in SS7 but I do not "GOTO" inside SS7 as this occasionally confuses the AAP and you can get lockup (and you then have to restart the AAP app). Instead I search for the same object and GOTO inside AAP. However sometimes the target I want is not in AAP database so I GOTO a nearby star in AAP (based on what I see in SS7) and then using SS7 I nudge the scope to the target. I try to avoid "GOTO" in SS7 because of the lockups. I can align in both apps and they sync their aligns happily. I use the SS7 as my planning/record observations etc and tweaking image targets but AAP for my GOTO and Platesolve.

Excellent thank you Keiron and Chris... Good advice and I'm all in favor of the KISS principle so will use SS7 for logging and "visual plate solving" and let AAP handle plate solving and map function and toggle between SS7 and AAP for my imaging and EAA workflow :) Thank you for advice and looking forward to a nice evening here in the PNW with SS7 and AAP... Clear skies!
