Charging skyfi while connected to the telescope

Hello,

when skyfi is connected to the telescope, can I aslo charge skyfi's batteries with a powerbank (so while being connected with the telescope and with Skysafari)? Or do I need to this when SkyFi not connected to the telescope. Asking because when it's very cold the batteries of the Skyfi does not last long enough and I'd like to charge it while observing.

Thanks for your feedback

    Oliver,

It should work fine.  I just plugged my SkyFi-III into the charger to test the theory.  With the charger cable plugged in I get the red "Charging" light.  Then when I press the red power button I get another red light indicating that the device is ON.  And finally, when I look for WiFi connections on my phone I see my SkyFi unit and can connect to it.

So it sure seems like it should work for you.

Ok thanks for the quick answer. I was concerned that this simultaneous use would possibly damage the device or the Servocat. Did you also test it with an goto device?

    Thanks again.

    1. No.  I just made sure my phone would connect to it.  If the phone connects to it, then I'm sure SkySafari will work.
    2. Whether this means it'll work for hours and hours is another thing.  But I suspect it'll work just fine.
    3. I've had the same cold weather problem with little batteries you've had.  And so I often power some of my smaller devices (phone, SkyBT/RN-270, red clip lights, WiFi travel router, etc. from an external USB battery "brick".  And so far, no problems at all.
