Rob Bleistein I have SkySafari Pro 7.1.6 (1068) on a fifth generation Ipad Air running IOS 15.5i just installed the celestron focus motor on my Celestron Nextstar 8 scope and am trying to use the focus option in SkySafari. On my old Ipad running SkySafari 6 i had a focus icon on my main menu bar, but i am not seeing that with SkySafari 7 and i am not seeing a way toput it there through the settings, although i can find it through a couple clicks from the scope settings after it's connected, would be nice to have it on the main menu, or better yet, right on the screen. Also, focus menu seems a little confusing. is there a way to simplify it with just a +- icon and a rate of focus box? -
Rob Bleistein i see there was no follow up to this post after i posted my comment. the focuser option is very confusing and cumbersome to use.
but i finally figured out how to get to it now. after connecting your scope there is a little orange settings icon next to the slew rate bar.
click on that, which takes you to an accessories menu, and the focus motor should be right at the top.
I'm still not 100% sure what all these options are for. i think the UI could definetly be more intuitive. -
Greg Skoviak I will check this out again tonight. I think I checked this out previously but the Focuser icon was not available. Have been sidetracked since the original post, but to sum up it was available in older version, not so in the newer version. I have been meaning to send screenshots showing that the Focuser was/is not an option in the settings menu.

Rob Bleistein you are correct, i had version 6 on original Ipad Air 1st Gen. updated to 5th gen Ipad Air and Skysafari version 7 (pro).
with version 7 you first have to connect to the scope, then you will see a little icon to click on. See the attached screenshot.
This will take you to the focuser menu (focus option is at the top of the menu) -

Greg Skoviak This is on Samsungs newer Tab S8, Model SM-X700 Android Version 13.

Greg Skoviak Note that if I go to the Hand Controller, the focuser is available and I can command it to go to various focus locations and it indeed moves to the locations, so the focuser is recognized and operating. But the Safari software makes no mention of it nor does it show up in the Utilities menu.
-
Rob Bleistein same here, hand controller works fine with the focuser.
What does your main screen look like after you connect to the telescope? -
Greg Skoviak Note that I have a case going with Keiron Smith of Simulation and have just emailed him the updated information that he was looking for. So below is the main screen when connected and you can see the icon that you click on that brings up the Setup/Utilities page shown above with no mention etc of the focuser.

Rob Bleistein All said and done, I would like to see the focus controls on the main screen like the slew controls are.
There should not be a need for alot of clicking around to get to the focus control. Below image is a mockup
of what it could look like. two buttons for clockwise or counterclockwise, and a slider to control the rate. If there
is a need to keep the advanced options like knowing the position or moving to a specific position, those can stay in
the menu settings as they are now. -
Greg Skoviak Yes, I am not sure why it was embedded in 7 PRO. In 6 PRO it had its own icon at the bottom and the focus panel would slide out from the right when the icon was selected. This has got to be some sort of issue related to the Android version it would seem.

Greg Skoviak Rob, Keiron had me try Celestron's SkyPortal (which is a close facsimile to SkySafari) and which I had forgotten about, but in any case it worked with the focuser icon located where it once was in SkySafari 5 or 6 Pro, I can't remember for sure. But in any case it works, so hopefully the folks at Simulation Curriculum can identify the issue and patch it. I have attached a screenshot of the icon tool tray at the bottom of SkyPortal.
Thanks for your assistance.
