There was a problem opening the preference file, try throwing it out and start again (Windows)

    Follow

    After updating to version 6.4.3 you receive an error message saying "there was a problem opening the preference file, try throwing it out and start again."

    Solution:

    Right-click the Starry Night application in the (C:)-->Program Files folder and choose "Run as Admin".

      Keiron, did as you suggested and ran as administrator and Starry Night 6.4.3 launched without error messages, but the interface is all white with no map, graphics or text. See attached.

      Eadesign,

      Please try this:

      1. Go Computer ---> (C:) --->Users ---> (username) --->AppData --->Local ---> Imaginova Canada --->Prefs <---rename this folder as Prefsold
      2. AppData will not be visible unless you choose to "Show Hidden Files". To do this, go Control Panel ---> Folder Options ---> View ---> Show hidden folders, etc.
      3. After renaming the Prefs file, retry Starry Night.

      Please let me know if that helps.

      Not for me, I'm afraid.............why this should suddenly crop up is both a mystery and an acute annoyance.  Excellent programme--when running, but it rarely does for long and for no obvious reason.  Why this should be so, only the programmers know.  I admire it for what it does, for driving a scope and being able to swing from object to object is so handy.

      BUT--cannot be relied on, unfortunately

      This did not change a thing for me. The program continues to throw the same error message. I even tried the renaming of the preference folder. Still throwing the same error message.
