How to Beta Test V7

If you have been approved for beta-testing, and would like to additionally contribute to the beta-testing forum discussion please do the following:

       You must login and request access to join the V7 forums

1.  Please create a support account.  You can sign up, or login with Google+, Facebook or Twitter:

So, Step #1 is to get signed into the Simulation Curriculum support website.

2.  Once you are logged into the support forums please scroll to the bottom of this post and "Add a comment".  Just say "Hi I'm an approved beta-tester that would like access to the forum".  Once you "Add a comment" to this post below access will be granted to the forums.  Note, you must already be an approved V7 beta-tester (see above).

So, Step #2 is to "Add a comment" at the bottom of this post.

                                Telescope Control Forums

Telescope Control Forums for Meade, Celestron, Orion, etc.  Within each forum we will discuss telescope compatibility and V7.  

Please post about the telescope setup that you are testing with V7 Beta.

1. Telescope.
2. Mount.
3. USB2Serial cable.
4. Operating System.
5. SN7 version number (i.e. 7.0.0.56).

Please discuss your success, or difficulties encountered, with V7 Beta telescope control.

These telescope forums are here to help common telescope brand users communicate with one another to clearly identify and separate issues that originate in the hardware set up from any originating in V7 Beta.

Ideally, I would like the telescope forums to act as a checklist - such that we can eventually confirm all telescopes as working with V7.

On Windows operating systems:

Starry Night supports any equipment/mounts compatible with ASCOM.

Visit http://www.ascom-standards.org to make sure you're updated to the latest version of Ascom 6.

Visit http://www.ascom-standards.org/Downloads/ScopeDrivers.htm to make sure you have the most recent Ascom driver package that is compatible with your mount.

Visit your mount manufacturer's website and make sure you have the latest firmware for the telescope/mount hand controller.

Once you have completed the checklist above the procedure for connecting a telescope is as follows:

1) Power on the telescope - and align it using the hand controller.
2) Plug it into the computer.
3) Start Starry Night.
4) Open the Telescope tab and click Configure to choose your telescope.
5) Click the Connect button.

On Mac OSX operating systems:

Starry Night drivers are already included with the installation.

                                 Universal Search Forum

This is the new search feature in V7.  Within this forum we will discuss common search queries, what is working, what needs to be improved, etc.  What searches are you performing that return empty results?   Does universal search return the results you expected? Are the results useful?  What search keywords would you like to be supported? Or feel are missing and important?

Please note, all these forums are not a substitute for submitting direct tickets to the developers.  In order for your specific issues to be clearly identified and corrected throughout the beta-testing process please be sure to continue to submit tickets as usual.
