Earthrise simulation from moon misplaced

Hi admins and community,

Just yesterday bought Starry Night Enthusiast edition. The main purpose was to simulate famous 'Lunar Orbiter', 'Apollo 8' and 'Apollo 11''s Earthrise images.

Put the GMT date, the Moon position (it is hard to get it cause the text boxes does not work well, i'll give you more info on demand) and point towards the Earth. The terminator and rotational position of the Earth is completely wrong.

Nevertheless, if set the Earth as primary object and get away thousands of kilometers from the surface, everything goes ok.

Please ask for more details if needed.

  Hi Gabriel,

  First, it is quite possible that you may find a bug in Starry Night.  But, we can not proceed to troubleshoot the issue unless you can prove your case to begin with.  The burden is on you to show why Starry Night is incorrect.  This means you are required to provide both reproducible events in the Starry Night program, as well as, evidence to the contrary, from other highly reputable sources (i.e. NASA).  You can provide reproducible events in Starry Night by saving the state of the program as an SNF file.  With all this in mind please attach pictures and evidence/documentation to demonstrate your claim that the terminator and rotational position of the Earth is completely wrong.  With all that, we'll take a look at what you have discovered :)

  Files can not be uploaded in the community forum reply, so please reply here with your arguments, and link via dropbox (or similar) to files that support your findings.

  If you do not have dropbox please attach the files to the ticket you submitted.

  Hi Admins,

  In this link, you can find a NASA Photo (get in an official NASA repository). This is the infamous Earthrise picture. Also you can find the .snf file. The file try to reproduce this moment and place as accurate as the interface's app allowed me.

  Well, in OSX (I didn't check on Windows) you see that the rotational position of Earth is accurately rendered. But just click on the Moon's surface and the Earth rotational position goes nuts.

  Hi Gabriel,

  On OS X I can not reproduce the "Earth rotational position goes nuts" - so here are my suggestions.

  1. Please record a short video showing the mouse tool, the mouse action, and the result seen.  Link to the video here.  Or...
  2. I can remote your computer, and you can show me first-hand.

  Please let me know how you would like to proceed.
