Would love if I only had to enter all my scopes and eyepieces only once and then be able to export and import onto another device that is running SkySafari

Ken Christensen And LOCATIONs please and thank you.

Bill Tschumy Anthony,
That is what the cloud syncing feature we've added to SkySafari 5 is designed to do. Are you aware to it?
Locations are since as well.
-
Anthony Spina Must have missed the feature will need to look at the manual

Anthony Spina OK tried it. But it doesn't work. Signed in on my google account on both Android device running SkySafari 5 plus and iOS device running SkySafari 5 pro. Tried quiting and restarting. No sync
-
Bill Tschumy Well, it certainly works, but for some reason you are not seeing the syncing.
First try it with a single device. After enabling cloud syncing, but the app in the background (or quit). Now go to your Google Drive either in a browser or using a Google Drive app. Do you see a SkySafari 5 directory there? Is there anything in it?
If the directory exists, try going back to the app. Select a few different objects by tapping. Now put the app in the background again and look at Google Drive. Has the modification time of History.txt been updated?
Start there and tell me what you're seeing/

Ken Christensen Nevermind. Mea culpa. Note to self: RTFM 😉

Anthony Spina Looked in Google drive and there are 2 folders one for SkySafari 5 Plus and one for SkySafari 5 Pro. Both folders have content inside..
Why 2 folders instead of one?
-
Bill Tschumy Each app has its own Google Drive sync directory. Plus will not sync with Pro and vice versa. If you have both apps (one on each device), that is why they are not syncing.

Anthony Spina i started entering in all my equipment in the Plus version. Can I copy the equipment text file from the Plus version to the Pro version so I don't have to enter all the info again? are the files compatible to do so?
-
Bill Tschumy Yes, they are compatible. Manually copying them should work. Note that you should have both apps quit or in the background for this manual operation to work smoothly.
-
Anthony Spina Thanks Bill

Bill Tschumy I assume these are both Android devices? Is there a reason you don't install Pro on both? Possibly you don't have the space for Pro on one of them? You are aware that the Google Play license lets you install on as many devices as you want.

Anthony Spina Pro is on iOS and Plus is on Android
-
Bill Tschumy Ah, I should warn you then. For some people (including me), the Google syncing has stopped working on iOS. I have not been able to figure it out. I think I need to upgrade to the latest Google code, but when I looked at it about a month ago it was in a bit of a shambles (the Google engineer admitted as much). I was going to wait a couple of months for it to get sorted out.
So if you are seeing recently changed files for Pro, then it is still working for you. If you are not seeing the changes, then it may be broken for you as well.

Anthony Spina ok good to know. keep us posted
