No matter how long I keep the power applied to charge the battery, the battery will not hold a charge for even a second.
As soon as I unplug the external power, the unit shuts off.
I am unable to use the unit while it is plugged in - it simply won't work that way for some reason.
If I knew the specs on the battery, I would have my local Battery Plus replace it.

You are talking about the SkyFi 3, right? If so it sounds like it is defective and should be replaced under warranty. The other possibility is that the charger is defective. Have you tried charging it by plugging into some other USB charger?
Thanks, Bill. I discovered that I was trying to charge it from a powered USB hub. Using a 2A charger, it took a charge. And I also discovered that with the 2A charger I could use the SkyFi with the charger plugged in.
One question: I left it on charge overnight, but the charging indicator light never went out. Does it ever go out?

Yes, the charging light will go out when fully charged.
The charger we supply is 5V at 1 amp. It should charge a fully dead unit in 3-4 hours.
Bill, it has been plugged in to a 2A charger for overnight and now again for the last three hours, and the charging light hasn't turned off.
Sound like there could be a problem. If unplug it, connect to its wireless network and go to 10.0.0.1 in a browser, what does it say the battery status is? What percent charged?
Bill, it was 70% when I first opened it to check the status. I have firmware version 1.1.2.
As I was using the device just to check the status, it dropped from 70% to 67% in a one hour period.
I let it sit on the charger for another couple of hours and the status went up to 78%.
It's working, however slowly.
