SkySafari Pro (Android Pixel) + Skyfi 3 + Meade ETX-90 Connection Fail (Solution: Turn Off Cellular Data And Just Have Wi-Fi On - Should Be Fixed In Firmware)

I have received the new Skyfi 3 (with firmware 1.3.2) .  Followed the instructions to connect Meade ETX-90 . But connection failed.

Later updated firmware to 1.3.3(latest)  and tried . still same problem.

I am able to connect Skyfi WIFI but DATA indicator is not blinking..

Error message is "Connection failure"

I have just sent another notice to the firmware developer.  Let's give him another day to respond.

I was googling for Wi-Fi networking problems on the Pixel.  I ran across this:

    https://recomhub.com/blog/google-pixel-and-pixel-xl-wifi-connection-problem/

It is possible that your device is switching networks behind your back.  Please try this:

Disable the smart network switch on the Google Pixel and Pixel XL and fix the WiFi problem:

    1. Turn on your Pixel or Pixel XL smartphone
    2. Enable the mobile data connection of the Google Pixel and Pixel XL.
    3. After the mobile data connection is enabled, go to Menu -> Settings -> Wireless.
    4. At the start of the page you will see the option “Smart network switch”.
    5. Uncheck this option to obtain a not so stable wireless connection of your Google Pixel and Pixel XL with the router still upright.
    6. Now your Google Pixel and Pixel XL will no longer automatically switch between Wi-Fi and the mobile Internet.

Let me know if that helps.

I have checked all the setting options, “Smart network switch” not in the Android 7.1.2 .

I am out of ideas on what to try.  I strongly doubt it is a fundamental incompatibility between the Pixel and SkyFi 3.  Most likely there is some setting that needs to be changed.  If you are friends with some technical person, perhaps he can figure out what is happening.  Otherwise I would advise you to return the SkyFi 3 for a full refund.

    Hi Chandra,

We can reproduce this issue.  So, we would appreciate if you would give us some time to see if there is a firmware fix possible in the near future.

Can you wait this out?  Or, would you prefer to return for refund?

Thanks for all your troubleshooting efforts!

Or, maybe we can figure out what setting is blocking the connection.

    Chandra,

We have located  a Pixel phone to test on and I am able to reproduce your problem.

We have found that if you turn off your cellular data and just have Wi-Fi on, it does seem to connect and allow you to access the SkyFi config page.  Could you try this please and see if this temporary work around works for you?  It is still not clear if this is a SkyFi 3 bug or a bug in the Pixel's networking.
