[Bug] SkySafari 6 Pro | App Crashes When Accessing Sites

 SkySafari 6 pro

iPhone 6s / iOS 11.2

I was setting up Sites in the Observe menu. I setup 2 sites successfully. I then searched for a location that did not have any results. I am not exactly sure how, but I exited the Sites setup and went back to the main app. Now when I try to access Sites the app will crash.

I pulled the crash log from Xcode. You can view it here: http://ericemmons.com/SkySafari.Pro.12-22-17-8-47.PM.crash

Is there a way I can delete all the site data and start over? I tried reinstalling the app but that did not do it.

    Eric,

    Sorry you are having problems.

Did you set up an account on LiveSky or were you using the app anonymously?

Could you go to the Account settings and give me you Cloud Storage ID?  That will let us see what is happening with your data.

After we get you going again, if you could try to figure out how you got in this state that would be very useful to us.  The app was in beta for about a month and no one ran into this problem.

My cloud storage ID is Zf8cYWVxAa.

I would be more than happy to help find the root of the issue. Once i can get into Sites I will see if i can reproduce the issue and document each step along the way.

Ok. I logged into LiveSky and was able to remove the incomplete site. This allowed me to enter the sites section in the app.

I was successfully able to recreate the steps to my issues.

    1. Enter Sites
    2. Tap Create New Observing Site
    3. Tap into the name field and delete the existing text, "Untitled Site"
    4. Tap Done Typing
    5. Tap Done
    6. Try to enter Sites again and the app will crash

    Screen cap of replication: http://ericemmons.com/SkySafari.mp4

What I saw in LiveSky (before I deleted the site):

    Dashboard Widget

    Sites List (below map)

    Edit Observing Site

Let me know if you need any additional information.

    Eric,

Thanks so much for tracking down how reproduce this.  I have changed the code so you can no longer have a blank site name (renames it with "Untitled Site").  I also prevented the crash if you had one left over from before this change.

As a fellow developer I can completely understand the frustration with testing for days/weeks only to find a bug after launch. I was Glad to help out.

Ha!  There are always bugs in something as complex as SkySafari .  I wish this were the only one.  Fortunately, they've all been easy to fix.  We will push a 6.0.1 update in a few days to deal with these.
