Do I Use SkySafari Or The Celestron Hand Controller To Align When Connected To Celestron WiFi Via SkyPortal WiFi Module? (Answer: SkySafari)

Will Skysafari 5 Pro for Mac (OSX) wirelessly connect to a Skyportal WiFi on a Celestron 8SE?  If so, will I be able to use this configuration to connect and align the 8SE?

I know SkySafari 5 Pro for IOS will do this but don't know if the OSX version will.

Yes, the Mac version of SkySafari can connect to the Celestron Wi-Fi module.  The UI for doing the alignment is a bit different than on iOS.  You need to manually align on three stars by centering on a star and tapping "Align".

Meaning I can't use the Mac Version of SkySafari to to the alignment?  I need to use the hand controller to do that?

    Hi Scott,

No, you use SkySafari to do the alignment.  Do not use the scope hand controller for aligning when connected via Celestron WiFi.

    Thanks!

I've been struggling with how to align using SkySafari on Mac.

The advice above is "You need to manually align on three stars by centering on a star and tapping 'Align'."

Does this work like Celestron's SkyAlign?  I just pick three bright stars and click align when centered without worrying what the reticle on the screen is pointed at and SkySafari figures out the model?

Or do i have to center a star, pick that star in Sky safari then click "Align".  And repeat two more times?

It is the latter.  You need to center a star in the scope, select the same star in SkySafari, and then tap Align.  Do this for 3 or more stars (I believe you can have up to 10).
