SkySafari 6 Pro | Why Do I Have To Pay Twice, Once For iPhone and Again iPad?

I just upgraded to SkySafari Pro 6 from my phone. I went to see if it installed on my iPad and it says I have to pay another $20 to install it? Had I known this I would have just updated my iPad.

No, this is not true.  As always, you only have to purchase it once.  Nothing has changed.

    1. You might double check to see if both devices are logged into the same account.

    2. You might force quit the App Store app on the iPad and try again.  Maybe something is cached and not refreshed.

If you still have problems you will need to contact Apple to see what is up.  It is their store and we have no control over it.

    Joe,

Go into the "App Store" app... and on the main page you should see your icon/portrait in the upper right corner.  Tap on that (your icon or portrait).

This will pull up an account window... and you'll see an option that says "Purchased".  Tap that.

This will show you all your recent purchases against that same account.  Where you see Sky Safari Pro, you should now see the cloud download icon ... which you can tap and install.

It would probably also refresh if you kill and restart the App Store so it gets latest purchase info.  But going into that "Purchased" history option will force it to get the most recent purchases fresh from the cloud.

Going to my account and viewing it from “purchased” solved the problem. I was able to download it. Thanks Tim.

    Tim,

I also had this same issue. The problem is that iTunes only knows both Apps as the same name "SkySafari Pro". When you purchase the new 6 Pro, iTunes does not refresh it's link to the new purchase, since it already sees that you own SkySafari Pro. iTunes thinks both apps, SkySafari 5 Pro and SkySafari 6 Pro, are the same app when purchased, and ONLY lists the app in your purchased apps as SkySafari Pro, not SkySafari 6 Pro as it should. This is a problem the developer needs to rectify with Apple. Why make your good paying customers have to jump through hoops and frustration to rectify this oversight. Regards, Tom

    Tim,

I really don't think this is what is happening.  Every app is assigned a numeric "Apple ID" and this is what Apple uses to track the app.  SkySafari 6 Pro is 1306165506 and SkySafari 5 Pro is 1049036258.  They never use the app's name.  The developer can change this name whenever they want and you can imagine the problems that would cause if that was how they determined if an app was purchased.

This is an Apple App Store bug pure and simple.  There is nothing we can directly do to fix it but I am happy to contact Apple about it.  However, it will get more attention if customers report the problem to Apple.

MacOS and iOS are completely different operating systems, so I would expect to have to pay separately to use the app on both. The last comment is unrelated to this thread, which is about using the app on different devices with the same operating system.
