How To Orient FOV Indicator Correctly When Disconnected From Equatorial Mount And Horizon Mode? (Answer: Observe > Scope Display > FOV > Field Rotation Angle And FOV Orientation - Read On!)

My rectangular FOV indicator is always oriented Alt-Az (i.e. aligned with the horizon) even if I define an equatorial mount preset.  It oriented correctly under the initial release of SS7 but now seems to be broken under release 7.0.1.  I confirmed this as my ipad had 7.0.0 and showed the display correctly but when I upgraded to 7.0.1 the FOV display switched from equatorial to Alt-Az.

I posted the above message to this forum back in November 2021, and the issue was fixed in the next release (thanks!).  However it seems this problem is back in version 7.1.6.

Having the same problem. Any progress on this? Makes the app useless for astrophotographers who need to be able to determine the camera angle to frame the shot.

Solved. It looks like SC changed the way this works from earlier versions.  In the Observe menu, select Scope Display and then select the FOV you have activated.  You are then presented with a list of options including Display Name, Indicator Color, Field Rotation Angle and FOV Orientation.  If you select the last one you are given a choice of orientations: Default, Equatorial or Horizon.  I now use Equatorial as that is the orientation of my camera FOV rectangle, regardless of how the sky is being portrayed in SkySafari.

Perhaps I missed the announcement of new features when the latest SS release was issued but this change certainly wasn't obvious to me.  Also disappointing that no one pointed out this change as a reply to my original post.

Anyway I hope this works for you.
