[Feature Request] FoV Rotation Is Alt-Az And Should Be Celestial For Astrophotography

I use both Sky Safari and Starry Nights 8 - SN8 in my observatory. On SkySafari, the FOV rotates as the view slews - perfect! But, SN8 does not. I did not realize this until the other night when I took 2 hours 90 degrees off what I wanted. SkySafari was correct but SN8 was not. Is there a setting I have missed to make that happen?

I have no idea what this means... does it mean it is being worked on?

    Kevin,

We will move this to feature requests, and it has been requested by others too.

    Thx!

Yes, it is highly necessary and I requested it yesterday (I had not seen it had been already requested, sorry).

I thumbs up this request.  Do I need to do anything except note it here?

Just Checking. Original request 12/3/20, Everyone who found this difficulty gets a great "Thx!" but there does not seem to be a resolution of the issue. Perhaps in SN P+ V9?

I also support this request! Strange that there are so few of us asking for it!

Any news on when this might be fixed?  SkySafari Pro on my iOS devices operates correctly and that is about 15% of the price of Starry Night Pro Plus 8.  I've resorted to using free planetarium software on my Windows 10 based observatory as without proper Celestial Orientated FoV Rotation this software is almost useless for serious Astro Photography.

Also, I wouldn't call this a 'Feature Request', it's really more of a bug as I'm pretty sure previous versions of SN Pro handled this correctly.

This is a highly prevalent issue & you are not the only one going through it. Other members including me have also been facing stuff like this for the last two years. An example is below:

Any word on when this feature will be added back into the "upgrade" to SN8? It's been 4 months since I purchased the upgrade to SN8 and I still use SN7 for my astrophotography planning because the FOV in SN8 doesn't rotate as it would when an equatorial mount points to different locations in the sky. One does not purchase an "upgrade" and expect to lose long-standing features; it seems deceitful for you to have presented SN8 as an upgrade when features have regressed to the point of being unusable. So 4 months later I'm still waiting for you to add back an essential feature that makes SN useful for me as an astrophotographer. I might get back to my hobby of woodworking & mini engraving because this issue isn't really being woked on. Very disappointing.

Honestly I feel like I've been cheated.  I've been using Stellarium for free for two years, and just decided to purchased Starry Night Pro Plus and within 5 minutes of using it I've already hit two major snags.  The Night Vision says it doesn't work with my video card (RTX 3060 so highly doubtful it's the card) and now I find this basic feature of have the FOV rotate to match an equatorial mount has been on the backlog for two years?  As Graeme Smith said back in August 2021, the lack of this feature makes this software useless for me as an Astrophotographer.  And I agree, this isn't a feature request, it's major bug.

This used to work before I upgraded from SN8 to "Pro". Now on SN Pro 8 and now it only understands Alt/Az.

This makes having a FOV indicator (complete with guide cam) completely useless. Extremely disappointing ...

I agree, this is a bug rather than a new feature request.

Given I first reported this 2 years ago and there is no update or response - my guess is it is not going to be fixed. With great reluctance I have moved to Stellarium for my astro work.

Sincerely, I think I've been duped. I've used Stellarium for two years without charge. I recently made the decision to buy Starry Night Pro Plus, but after only five minutes of use, I've already encountered two significant problems. The Night Vision claims that my video card (a RTX 3060, so it's highly unlikely that the issue is with the card) prevents it from working this site, and now I discover that this simple feature—having the FOV rotate to fit an equatorial mount—has been on the backburner for two years. The lack of this capability renders this software useless for me as an astronomer, as Graeme Smith stated back in August 2021. I also concur that this is a serious defect rather than a feature request.
