How To Resolve "Sky Safari Isn't Responding" Error After Upgrade To Android 13? (Answer: Download The Open Beta - Read On!)

For as long as I've been using SkySafari, I've had the following minor annoyance. A few seconds after launching the app, I would get (almost always) an error dialog from Android:

If you choose "wait", the app picks up fine, and the only other time I saw it was sometimes when displaying a long list for the first time, like the list of observing sessions.  I was getting this with two different phones and a tablet, running different versions of Android, so I assumed it was a general behaviour that had not been reported/fixed because it was a minor inconvenience.

However, my tablet has just updated itself to Android 13, and now it definitely is a problem. If you click on "wait", the dialogue disappears, but then reappears about 4 seconds later, and it does this ad infinitum, making the app no longer usable. I don't see this behaviour with any other app, so I don't think the cause is my device being underpowered.

I'm assuming that when the app is communicating with the OS, some timeout threshold is being exceeded, causing the OS to declare the app unresponsive. One answer might be to change the timout value in Android for the SkySafari app (or all apps), but I can find no such setting. So I presume the fix needs to be on the app side.

    Well, I'm afraid my optimism was premature.
    The symptoms as described above are back.
    I'm now on 7.1.10.5.

    I'm now having this same issue.   Rebooting changes nothing.  If anything it seems even quicker to return after pressing "wait" than previously, about 10 seconds.  Not that it matters, but the "Send Feedback" menu option is no longer in the popup.

    Developers are looking for more info about this issue.  It mostly affects older Android device that have updated to the latest version of Android 13.

    If you're encountering frequent crashing or "app not responding" issues please create a screen recording of the issue with the SS7 app crashing, not responding, the error messages, etc.

    In the recording include the SS7 version number (See Help > scroll to the bottom) as well as Android OS specs and device info.

    Make sure you're running the latest SS7 beta.

    Share a link below to the screen recording using DropBox or similar file sharing service.

    Developers are working on the issue, but it will would be helpful to see exactly what is happening on your device specifically.

    I recorded a video that showed the issue. I then saw your comment regarding including the SS7 version number in the recording so I started to record another video...and now the issue has disappeared.     Still on version 7.11.10.5 so nothing has updated on this end.    If it recurs I'll record another video and share it.

    Hi, is there any update on this?
    My last post was premature, the problem persists.
    Occasionally the app starts quickly and does not give the time out error, but once it starts, it keeps going until the app is killed.
    Now running SS7 Pro 7.1.10.5

    2. Official bug reports.

    I've cross-posted a link in that other thread to this thread, and to my dropbox files with the videos. I will look into capturing a log file.
