How To Connect SynScan Pro App v2.3.7 And SkySafari 6 Plus? (Answer: Read On!)

Hello,

I had problems 2 years ago when connecting skysafari to a skywatcher mount through the synscan pro app (see post above) on Android (Samsung A50). The solution then was to revert to a previous synscan version 1.19 and that worked. Now, both applications have evolved through many new versions and I was trying to connect, but again it failed to connect ? Is this bug still around ? That would be amazing.

Many thanks for any advice. Best regards, Jan

    Dear Keiron,

thanks for your quick reply. But your answer does not say clearly if it the issue is solved or not...  I had read (and understood) all those links before I posted my question. The last 2 links refer to SS7 and the first link dates from July 2022 and still suggests to use an old version of synscan 1.19 or to turn off mobile data. We are now 2 year and several major version releases later.

Therefor my question remains unanswered: Can I expect that the latest versions of synscan pro 2.3.7 and sky safari 6 plus (6.8.7.2.) on Android will work properly or not ?

Thanks for your advice on this !

Let's ask Mike Atkins if he can help us here, as Mike is very knowledgeable about SkyWatcher app, updates and everything SkySafari 7.

    Fingers crossed.

    Hi Everyone,

As Jan Buytaert said, both Apps have gone through a few Updates. Android has, too. When I started with SkySafari I was running Android 11 on the OnePlus 8 Pro. I am now using the Galaxy S22 Ultra and will soon be running under Android 14.

As far as scope control goes there is nothing to make me think that it won't work for SS6+. I have an Orion XX12G but it shares the same SynScan control as is on a Skywatcher scope. You can read here to get most, if not all of your questions answered.

    https://support.simulationcurriculum.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/6996228847895--User-Guide-How-To-Connect-SS7-Plus-Pro-To-The-Orion-SkyQuest-XXG-and-SkyWatcher-SynScan-Dob-On-Android-OS

The only issue I have not been able resolve is the disconnect from the mount's WiFi that showed up with Android 12. I have tried reaching out to SkyWatcher about it with little to no help. I don't even know if it's being actively worked on.

The latest and least headache workaround is to use 2 devices, SynScan on one and SkySafari on the other.

If you read through the post I linked you'll get the general idea, settings, and what I've tried for workarounds.

Hope all of this helps you. I feel it should work for SS6+.

Also, if you have a copy of the SynScan or SynScan Pro app in 1.19.6 I'd love a copy. I have it somewhere but haven't found it yet.

    Hello Mike & Kieron,

yesterday I tried to run both apps in split screen (a feature of Android that I had never used before, but it is really simple to do) and then the connection works indeed. I will try to use the 'pop-up window' mode, since that will leave more screens space for SS6+. Btw, I am running Android11 on a Samsung A50.

Many thanks for helping me solve this issue!
