Keep receiving the message "Failed to create or open the plug in's registry area"

Originally from ticket #6106.

I looked up the solution to "Failed to create or open the plug in's registry area" and attempted to run as administrator. Did not work. Starry night trying running under Vista with a Celestron Star Seeker 130. With the change to administration software launch now continually requires an extra permission step. What do I do now? This is extremely frustrating!

System is now working, despite me doing absolutely nothing.  Simply tried the software with the scope after receiving a "no clue" from Starry night.  Scope registered and connected where yesterday it would not.  Any body got a brain storm?

As I mentioned before running as administrator resolves this error message %100.  I think that you tried this strategy has something to do with the positive result.

I am receiving this error message even though I am logged on to my laptop with an account that is defined as an Administrator (see attached screen shots). What else could I try?

Also, I followed all of the steps in the "Telescope trouble-shooting set up guide - do this first!" topic.

I'm using a CPC 800 with HC Firmware 4.21 and MC Firmware 5.14; Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1; ASCOM 6 SP1

Ahhh...I joined the Starry Night group on Yahoo and found an exact explanation of what 'run as an administrator' means (i.e. right click on Starry Night and choose 'Run As Administrator'). That made all the difference.

Phil, thank you so much for clarifying the procedure in this forum thread.

To "Run as Administrator" right click on Starry Night and choose 'Run As Administrator" from the drop down menu that appears.

I have this same problem with my Celestron 8i.  I have done the "run as administrator" routine and tried every combination of connecting the scope first, loading the program first, etc. and still get the same error message.  What else can I try?

I have tried the Run as Administrator throughout every install. The Ascom Platform. The Eqmod drivers.

I even installed and Upgrade Starry Night Pro Plus6  as Administrator, and run it as administrator, but I'm getting nowhere. My OS is Windows 7 64 Bit. I think I'll go back to WIN XP, It was trouble free.

Trying to connect to EQ Sim throws out a large Popup, with some jargon about Boolean  this, and Boolean that.

Too much beyond Me.  I need Bill Gates to come visit.  LOL
