Cannot Get Pro To Detect Plugin (AscomScope.plug Exists In Plug-ins Folder)

Originally from ticket #6266.

Celestron 2000 Ultima 8
Dell Latitude D630, XP Pro
Starry Night Pro 4.0.5
AscomScope.plug (84KB, 10/4/2002) exists in "Plug-ins" folder (Starry Night Pro 4/Sky Data/Plug-ins)

Get "no plug-in installed" message under telescope. Reinstalled SW. Updated to 4.0.5. Installed telescope support. Same thing.

Any ideas?

    Hi Gary,

I believe the issue you are seeing is a result of software incompatibility between older versions of Starry Night and Quicktime version 7.4+. You can get SN running again by reverting to an older version quicktime (7.3.1)

    1) Remove Quicktime from your computer by clicking on Start -> Programs -> Quicktime and clicking the QuickTime uninstaller.

    2) Open your Windows control panel and use the add/remove programs utility to remove any remnants of Quicktime from the registry.

    3) Download Quicktime 7.3.1 from the following link, and install it:

    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime731forwindows.html

    Does that help?

Nailed it!  Thanks.  For anyone else reading this, I didn't have to reinstall SN or ASCOM, just QT 7.3.1.

Sure glad they keep these older posts.Trying to get some older software to work. Not allowing Apple to update Quicktime, i installed an old version and it took care of the problem. Thanks, Bill
