The center window in Starry Night SE doesn't display correctly. How do I fix it?

I own a HP Pavillion computer that originally came with Vista Home Premium (64 bit) installed.  Starry Night worked fine on it.  Later I upgraded my operating system to Windows 7 Home Premium and I no longer see a display in the large center window of Starry Night.  Where I would expect to see a view of the night sky, I instead see the underlying desktop of Windows.  I have gone to HP looking for updated video drivers.  I attempted to install their video driver for Win 7 64 bit systems without luck; it didn't successfully install.  Reinstalling the original Vista 64 bit video driver was successful but did nothing to correct my problem with Starry Night.

    Thank you for contacting Starry Night Support. My name is Keiron, and I'm here to help.

    Please send me this information:

    1. The graphics card.

    In Windows 7/Vista--->Start---> Control Panel---> System---> Device Manager---> Display adapters---> ?

    Please tell me what it says under display adapter. This will be the graphics card.

    2. System Information.

    In WIdows 7/Vista ---> --->Start---> Control Panel---> System---> look under "Windows Edition" and "System" <---- what version of windows (Home, Ultimate, etc), and if 32 or 64 bit.
    In Windows XP-->Start-->All Programs--->Accessories-->System Tools---> System Information <---- I need to know what XP service pack you are running. Also what version of XP, and 32 or 64 bit.

    3. And the manufacturer and model of your computer. And approximately how old it is.

    In WIndows 7/Vista ---> Start ---> In the Search Program and Files text window type "dxdiag" and hit return. ---> On the DirectX panel that opens up look under the System tab for "System Model" --->? Please tell me what it says here. This will be the model.

    In WIndows XP ---> Start ---> Run --->Enter "dxdiag" in the text field and hit OK---> On the DirectX panel that opens up look under the System tab for "System Model" --->? Please tell me what it says here. This will be the model.

    No joy.  I tried installing it and got the two windows that I've attached as images.  Just on the off chance it took, I went ahead and rebooted, then restarted Starry Night.  No changes noted.

    This used to work back when it was Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit.  The problem started when I upgraded to Win 7.  Always some unintended consequences to whatever we do.
