How can I get a full sky image (with Zenith in the center of the screen) ? 180degree zoom shows maybe 120 degrees of sky. It does not show the complete skydome.

Keiron Smith Hi Grant,
Please look in File ---> Preferences ---> expand the constraint to 180 degrees.
In the bottom left corner, where the FOV is, click the options button, and the switch to 180 degrees.
Please let me know if that works for you.
Kind regards,
Keiron

Grant Martin Yes, I had already set that value in the "preferences...". When I click on the "three line" I get the popoup like your "Other FOV.PNG" image.
I just now clicked on the 180 selection and it says I'm looking at 180 but now it's no more than 50 degrees. I can't zoom out any further. I've attached a screenshot.
Ya know, your FOV constraints screen shot above is from an Apple machine. I'm using Windows 8.1 on a Dell All-in-one laptop. From what I gather, most everyone who is experiencing problems with V7 over on the Yahoo groups website are also using Windows. I know the guys here in St Louis who are experiencing problems are all using Windows. Do you have a Win8 machine available to try to duplicate these problems? I need to run a quick test. I have a sneaky suspicion this zoom problem might be related to Win8.

Grant Martin Well, I restarted my machine and windows but that had no effect on the problem. The original report still stands - Unable to zoom out to 180.

Keiron Smith I'm working on this now.

Keiron Smith Hi Grant,
Would you mind letting me remote your computer? I can't reproduce this on Windows 7 or Windows 8. It would help if I could have a quick look at your set up. Thanks for your consideration.

Steve Winterton I use Win 7 on a Dell laptop and have a similar problem. I can get the FOV to 190X190 and this shows all the sky and 95% of the terrain. However, this is not repeatable. I have to go into the preferences dialogue box and reset factory defaults and reset constraints to max 190 every time I wish to view 190X190 FOV. I am not at home at the moment but can post pictures later if so required.
-
Steve Winterton Here is a pic of 191X190 FOV
It could be related to whether SN7 starts with or without shaders as SN7 will sometimes start with the shaders error message.
If I select no shaders the problem occurs, or so it seems to me.
My laptop is a Dell Vostro 3500 and the graphics driver is Nvidia GEForce 310M.

Grant Martin I'm making 2 reports in one here. The first is to comment on Steve's problem and the second is to report operational observations of this feature. See comment buried in #1 below with respect to the "view" obtained at a full zoom out value of 191x190.
With the exception of the non-repeatable nature of Steve's' problem, I wonder if Steve is seeing a false problem I reported earlier. I also wonder which version he is using. I'm on V7.0.1.116.
There are 2 ways to achieve a "Full sky View":
1] Press and hold the '-' button in the zoom bar until 190 degree fov is achieved. This is much more stable in V7.0.1.116. It's still a tad cutoff and off center. See screen shot "fullscreen 190...". Note the zoom value is 191x190
2] Press the "three line menu button" to pull up the enumerated FOV list. Select the '190' selection. This method does NOT produce the same "Full sky view" that the first method achieves. See screen shot "full screen by selection". This results in a zoom value of 190x118. The image is zoomed 190 in the horizontal direction but only 118 degrees in the vertical direction. If the '-' button is held down, the full 191x190 view is achieved.
I got bit by this a while back. Is this the same problem your are having?

Steve Winterton I am using V7.0.2.117. If I get the shader error message on start up and I select shaders off then the FOV of 191X190 is unobtainable without resetting to factory default and fiddling around with the preferences dialogue. If I do not get the shaders error message then FOV 191X190 is achievable every time using the zoom bar or the three line menu button.
I don't know what gets written to prefs.txt when shaders off is selected, but possibly that's where the issue starts. I haven't figured out how to generate a ticket yet so I have been unable to raise this with the technical guys at SC.
thanks for your input.

Steve Winterton Also, when I got home today my laptop had another windows 7 update. Since then, as hard as I try, I have not managed to get the shaders error message again.
-
Grant Martin My mistake, I'm on V7.0.2.116. I tried to update but I can't get 7.0.2.117.
Anyway, the only time I ever got the Shaders message was the first time I restarted SNPP after it suffered a crash.
It sounds like you have deeper problem that can only be solved by ... "The Team".

Steve Winterton Thanks Grant,
Please have a look at the post I made about the sun and surface models and tell me if you have the same effect when choosing an alternate surface model.

Steve Winterton Thanks Jeff,
I am not an official beta tester but I have applied. No reply as yet, but the application form did state it could take a few days.

Thomas Lesser Just downloaded SN7 and cannot get 180 degree view with set location's zenith. FOV does not go higher than 150 degrees. Useless to me without this feature. How do I set that?

Keiron Smith Hi Thomas,
Starry Night Enthusiast 7 has a max FOV of 150 degrees. A 180 degree FOV is only available in Pro 7 and Pro Plus 7.
Do you want to pay the difference and change your order to SN Pro 7?
-
Thomas Lesser Guess I have to go to Pro 7. How should I go about that? Can I contact you off list or can you find me off list. Since this is a public forum I don't want to provide my order # or e-mail address.
