SkySafari + SkyFi + Vixen Starbook SXP controller

Originally from ticket #24827.

Is skyfi could be used in the Vixen SXP?

The Vixen StarBook controller uses an ethernet interface, which is also physically incompatible with SkyFi. However, you can use an Apple AirPort Express (or other wireless router) to control the StarBook from our SkySafari iPhone app. This document from Vixen explains how. You also need to configure SkySafari to communicate with the StarBook controller at 169.254.1.1 on port 80.

Bill Tschumy replies:

No, SkyFi is now usable with the StarBook. As you indicated, you should use a wireless router like the AirPort Express.

It doesn't look like the Starbook One has any mechanism for control via 3rd party software.  I think you are out of luck unless you upgrade.

I'v heard the new iPhone (expensive version) might have an OLED display but not the iPad.  I guess we will know in the next month or so.  Yes, the OLED display will be quite an improvement for astronomy.

Thanks Bill for your quick response. You folks have a great product.

I'm staring at two Pinoccios (orphaned Arduinos - http://tech.cyborg5.com/2015/05/23/r-i-p-pinoccio-it-was-fun-while-it-lasted/) and my wife is telling me that I have to find some places other than the entry and the living room for the Vixen. Do I dare try to attach them to the SX2 as "Star Book Zeroes"? Yeah ... like that's gonna happen any time soon...
