[Database]* Unrecognized Common Objects (Answer: Provide A Screenshot Of Settings > Storage > "Cloud Storage ID")

Hundred+ logged observations covering approximately a dozen objects (observed from 2020 thru 2024) in lists now show as UNRECOGNIZED. I only use Sky Safari. Was there a recent software update/object format change that would make them disappear from SS Pro 7. Bode’s Nebulae, Sagittarius Star Cloud, Crescent Nebula, NGC 2841, NGC 4036, NGC 4752 are the biggest “offenders”. I am unable to open any of the observation details and they show as UNRECOGNIZED in observing lists as well. While I can switch to the new object entry for unlogged entries, it will be difficult to recreate previous observations (especially notes). Help! Jeff

Jeff, I see the same.  Do you get this in the observations window?

Yes! And what is worse: Go to your logged observations list, sort on name, you will a whole list of orange “unrecognized” (how I ID’d the ones with issues).

I see that all of my observations are still in LiveSky so at least they are not lost. Are you able to see your observations in LiveSky?

Yes, thank goodness.  But still this is very annoying as my observing lists won't show 'unrecognized' items on the display and I will have to manually correct all this (and look up RA & Dec numbers to determine which Bode's and which Crescent, etc.)  They had to have done something to the data base to trigger this.

A week ago they updated to version 7.2.5. It says that database issues were fixed but apparently there are still "issues".

This forum is followed by Simulation Curriculum so they will probably reply to the problem soon.

I don't think that you will have to do any manual corrections.  The observation list is loaded from LiveSky (or cloud storage) when you update the app or change devices running SS7.  Give it some time to work out.

BTW, On CN Dave "StarryNightGuy" stated: "The app is just having trouble finding the objects, because some of the catalog numbers (in the databases) have changed in 7.5.0. We're working on making it more forgiving searching for the objects, but I can't reproduce your issue, even with those exact objects, so I'll need more details."  Hopefully the details I am providing help.

    Jeff,

With your "Cloud Storage ID" I can access ( and duplicate to my personal computer, for debugging) your observing data. Are you ok with me doing that?

    Jeff,

When I open your lists/observations in the latest version of SkySafari, everything seems ok.

To be clear, a list created on SS6 (or even earlier versions of SS7) could very possibly show the bug you're seeing... I just can't see it, after copying your exact data.

If you open the latest version of SkySafari 7 (7.5.2), can you point me to a few of your lists/observations that you're sure exhibit this problem?

    Thanks,

    Dave

    Dave,

I have the same issue SS 7.5.2 (1125) iOS 18.1.1 iPad Air M2

But on LiveSky all observations are good.

This unrecognized object appears in Observe - Observations and in any Observation List .

Thanks everyone for your patience. I'm uploading a build to TestFlight right now that should resolve these issues. If any of you could test it out, that would be great. Version 7.5.3 (1126). It should be available later tonight.

I do not see SS 7.5.3 (1126) in TestFlight.

I did pull down to refresh also.

Yes I am testing beta.  I'm probably a PIA in that group.

    I've just downloaded 7.5.3

    Thanks

I just took a look at the unrecognized objects in the observation lists and Sessions.  It looks to be fixed.

I was able to install the beta. Fix worked! No more “unrecognized objects”. Thank you! Look forward to it being incorporated into next formal SS7 drop.

New issue with the fix (while orange unrecognized goes away lists, lists dont pick up having observed objects). I will post in beta testing forum.

I have the same problem with one of my iPads. Both iPads are the same MK2L3VC/A iOS 18.6.2 same cloud 4xm3on7jd7 SKYSAFARI 7PRO, 7.6.1 (1156). Complete removal and reinstall application on “defective” iPad today with no resolution, still have [unrecognized] I read all the comments on this post. Example GAIA 2630285835187212288 is ok on one iPad and unrecognized on the other. Same settings on both iPads. Thanks for your help. Not really interested for beta testing for now. Language French.
