[Database]* Unrecognized Common Objects (Answer: Provide A Screenshot Of Settings > Storage > "Cloud Storage ID")

Hundred+ logged observations covering approximately a dozen objects (observed from 2020 thru 2024) in lists now show as UNRECOGNIZED. I only use Sky Safari. Was there a recent software update/object format change that would make them disappear from SS Pro 7. Bode’s Nebulae, Sagittarius Star Cloud, Crescent Nebula, NGC 2841, NGC 4036, NGC 4752 are the biggest “offenders”. I am unable to open any of the observation details and they show as UNRECOGNIZED in observing lists as well. While I can switch to the new object entry for unlogged entries, it will be difficult to recreate previous observations (especially notes). Help! Jeff

    Andre,

GAIA stars aside, can you list any deep-sky objets (galaxies, nebulae etc.) that are still UNRECOGNIZED?

Thank you for the support. PGC12405 that’s the only one on my lists. I’m using GAÏA and PGC only for imaging purposes actually I’m using them for targeting purposes and boundaries for image composition. The most important thing I’m using them as a central element of my Astrophotography.

This morning I have “new” unrecognized items on both my iPads PGC 3847101 4612402 1850328 1852269 3847233 3847299. All of them and GAÏA unrecognized items have been created on my lists with SKYSAFARI pro. From what I’ve noticed all unrecognized GAÏA have magnitude numbers higher than +15, one is +16. I’m wondering why the unrecognized items have changed from day to day. Because the word “unrecognized” appears on my lists which are in the database must pop up somewhere and should be addressed automatically. Like I said I’m using them as reference points mostly for targeting the central part of my pictures and using for “goto”. Since I’m using SKYSAFARI in conjunction with ASIAIR the universe of astronomy is at my fingertips. Thank you for your support. Clear skies!

    Andre,

Can you ensure that those PGC objects are actually in the database on both devices? If they're that "dim" (Mag 15+) it means they're possibly part of the "extended" PGC database that needs to be downloaded manually via Settings > On-Demand Data | PGC Galaxy Database.

You can also confirm they exist simply by searching for them in the "Search" view.

If they are in-fact there, I think I know what the problem is, and can likely fix it in the next update.

The same goes for the GAIA stars. If you downloaded them on one iPad, but not the other, then they will be "unrecognized."

Thank you for your support. I found that the GAIA extended data was installed only on one of my iPads. After installation there is no more unrecognized GAIA items. For the PGC extended data I found that it wasn’t installed on my both iPads. After installation only PGC 1850328 and 1852269 were found and re-added to my lists. PGC 3847101 4612402 3847233 3847299 are still unrecognized and not found in search menu. I’m sure they were added by clicking on them. I also turned off and on my iPads and still have the problem. Have a great day!
