How Come ‘Show Object Info’ Shows Information Of Another Object?

For quite a long time now I have had an issue that appears on all devises that I use. My previous and current mobile (OnePlus 11) and my new Galaxy Tab (latest version).

When I acces some observations via a session and then click on ‘show object info’ I get information of another object. If I click ‘show observation on chart’ the same thing happens and I get to see the other object on the chart. This happens for example with the session ‘ DGB Nathan, Rem, Jan en Arnold’ of March 3, 2022, with object NGC 2353. I see info about NGC 1807. If I then  via ‘more’ click ‘show observations’ I get to see obeservations of both NGC 2353 and 1807. Another example Caroline’s Rose: NGC 7789. Object info is shown for NGC 2423 in another constellation. If I then click on show observations I see observations from NGC 7789. I have never observed NGC 2423.

What also happens, is that observations that I made do not show when I search and select the object and then click show observations. So I find myself go observing something and later find out that I already did so before. This is for example the case with NGC7788. I find the corrrect object, but if I now click on “show observations” SkySafari tells me I never observed it.

I have similar problems where observing lists and observations that I created in the past are now linked to the wrong object information. Seems like a database corruption of some sort?

For example, below is a screenshot of an observing list where NGC 3114 is described as an open cluster in Camelopardalis which is incorrect. When you go to the object information it shows you information about Collinder 464. When you are on the object information page for Collinder 464 and you go to "show observations" it shows a list of observations for NGC 3114.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled sky safari which has not helped.

Here is a link to a screen recording: Screenrecorder-2025-06-17-18-11-45-487.mp4

I spent a bit of time trying to figure out the problem with objects in observing lists linking to the wrong objects and observations. Eventually I fixed the problem by downloading my observing list files (in skylist format) from Livesky and then deleting the ObjectID field lines and importing the skylist file back into Skysafari. The correct ObjectID fields are then regenerated by Skysafari.

I suspect that the problem may be related to changes with the Skysafari object database and that the ObjectID values have changed for some objects, leading to old observations and observing lists becoming corrupted.

As part of my troubleshooting, I tried to import fresh observing lists from the Skysafari repository, but even then there were errors in some of the lists eg. AL Urban Club

It would be great if support could provide some feedback on these issues.

Hi Dylan, that is great news. Thanks for digging into this. I will try the same (if I manage) and let you know the outcome.

Hi Dylan, can I ask you, I don't have the download option 'Skylist format', only OAL and CSV. OAL is beyond my understanding. CSV maybe not, but it doesn't include an Object ID field. The closest I get is 'Target Calalog Number' field. Can you help? Thanks!

Hi Roeland, I'm glad I'm not alone in having these problems with Skysafari.

I downloaded the "Observing Lists" in Skylist format from Livesky. I think this is different from exporting all your Observations (not lists), which is only available in OAL and CSV as you mentioned.

The method I mentioned previously (deleting Object ID's) worked with my Observing Lists but it did not sort out the problem with some of my Observations being corrupted. I ended up painstakingly going through all my observations one by one to find out which ones were associated with the incorrect objects and deleted them and then re-entered them. It was a really frustrating process, good luck.

I have been having the same issues.  It's really frustrating and seems to happen in SS7 but not SS 6
