Starry Night Pro 7/8 | How Can I Make The Font Larger On A Microsoft Surface Display? (Answer: Change High DPI Settings - Read On!)

 Hi,
I just installed Starry Night Pro 7 on Microsoft Surface, and all the screen become unreadable, because it's all to small.
I cannot change manually any fonts size.
I try to change the screen resolution, but ist still to small to be read.

There is any global solution to increase globally the size of the whole program?

    Hi Stefano,

There is no global solution to increase globally the size of the whole program, but you can increase font sizes for specific classes of objects through the options (search for 'Labels' in the search box).

You should also be able to increase the size of your fonts through Windows Settings: System/Display

This is a serious and disappointing problem!! I am on my 2nd MS Surface computer and I have had the same problem as Stefano on each. Somehow I solved it years ago my surface pro 3, now I have to deal with it again on my new Surface Book. The problem is NOT the labels on sky objects. The problem is that all of the display elements are far too small to use. The side pane appears to be in 2-pt font. Dialog boxes are also unusable (even the start-up splash screen and the preferences dialog where one would expect to find a solution for this problem). The date/location bar appears about 5 pixels high and is useless.

    This is incredibly unprofessional!

Sorry to necro this topic, but I just installed Starry Night Pro 7 on my Microsoft Surface Pro 6, and I know how to resolve this problem. It's a fairly common issue with the Surface computers because of their high pixel density display.

Right-click on your shortcut for Starry Night Pro 7 and select "Properties". Go to the "Compatibility" tab. Close to the bottom, click the button that reads "Change high DPI settings". In the new window, tick next to "Override high DPI scaling behavior", again towards the bottom. Change the pull-down menu to "System". Click "OK" on each window. Now your small font problem should be taken care of.

You can always change font sizes in the program, but this solution basically tells Windows that this program doesn't automatically scale the UI for high DPI displays, effectively scaling the entire UI to be more useful on the Surface.

Thank you Corey! This does indeed solve the problem. If anything it makes the UI features a little too big, but at least the are usable now. You wouldn't think a 3kx2k display would pose such a challenge to a sophisticated graphical program like Starry Night. I have only seen this problem in one other application, and was able to solve that without dealing with OS compatibility features. I opened a ticket and provided screen captures to their support team a couple of weeks ago, but have yet to hear anything from them. Your solution is the right one. Thanks again.
