Chris I was just talking to the developers late last month and they said they are currently working on the Mac version now and hope to ship it at the end of March. Then a couple of more months for Android.

Chris Fioretti Would there be a free or discounted upgrade from SkySafari 5 Pro to 6 or would I have to purchase the app again at full price?

John Sillasen They always offer an upgrade price so you don't have to purchase it as a new app. Best guess is there will also be a limited time offer for a lower price upgrade at release. Then the upgrade will be at regular price which is still substantially less than a full price purchase. Best guess considering I've used the Android version since release 3, upgraded to 4 and upgraded to 5.

Chris I'm pretty sure they don't offer a different upgrade price unless you've purchased VERY recently before the new version is released, and even then I'm pretty sure it's case by case. The older versions will continue to function normally, but for the added features that the developers had to work on, you'll have to pay market price for new major versions (4, 5, 6). Luckily, as John mentioned, they DO offer a limited time, usually a month, offer of half price right after release, and the apps occasionally go on sale outside of that.
For myself, I think the app is the best astronomy software available, and I'm happy to for out the money every couple of years to support the great development team who listens to the community and quite often implements their ideas. -

I am currently using the free Celestron Android SkyPortal app on my Samsung tablet.
I need to decide whether to wait for the Skysafari 6 Android version or buy version 5 now.
Anybody know what the version 6 Android upgrade will cost me if I buy version 5 now? Tks. -

Version 6 is definitely worth it if you can wait. If not, email simulation curriculum and ask them if there's anything they can do if you purchase now, months ahead of the new version coming out. Good luck, you're going to love Sky Safari!

SS6 for Android will be released later in 2018. As Chris said, when we release SS6 for Android it will be on sale 50% off for the first month. That is how we provide an upgrade price for our SkySafari 3/4/5 users. You can buy SS5 now and get SS6 for 50% or just wait for SS6 and get it for 50% off.

Bill Tschumy SS6 on Android was released about 2 weeks ago. We have the app half price for another couple off weeks to help people upgrade.
