SkySafari 6 Plus | How Can I Do A 2-Star Alignment Using A Celestron CGEM? (Answer: SS6 Celestron Settings > Alignment Type)

I have used Skysafari 5 Plus successfully for years with my Celestron CGEM mount and WiFi mount adapter.  I upgraded to Skysafari 6Plus, and while it looks like all the setup parameters match, when I go to align with 6Plus it asks "Are you sure you want to align with the Sun?" which of course I don't want to.  I can go back to 5 Plus and it works flawlessly.

Any suggestions for what's wrong?

Thanks

Mark

    Mark,

It sounds like you have the Sun selected when you tap Align.  It will try to align on the selected object.

What is the "WiFi mount adapter" you are using?  Is this the Celestron Wi-Fi module?  SkyFi?  Something else?

I have the Celestron Skyportal wifi adapter.  I'm looking to do the normal 2 star in the east and 2 star in the west general alignment.  I didn't to my knowledge select the sun.

The Sun is selected by default when you first run the app.

I sounds like you have something set up incorrectly.

    1. Did you choose "Celestron Wi-Fi" as the scope type?

    2. When you tried to connect, did you choose "Connect & Align" or "Connect"?

    3. What alignment type did you select in the Celestron scope settings?  SkyAlign is the default type.

    4. The SkyAlign should step you through slewing to the 4 stars and aligning on them.  You shouldn't be directed to the Sun.

    1) yes Celestron WiFi

    2) Connect & ALign

    3) I can't see where to select this

    other selections:

    Mount type: equatorial goto (German)

    set up and control: Sideral

    Communication: Access Point

    3. To change any of the Celestron Wi-Fi settings, you need to be connected to the mount.  Join the Wi-Fi network and tap "Connect" rather than Connect & Align".  Once connected, tap the orange settings icon above the scope control panel.  There should be a section there where you can chose the alignment type.  If you haven't been to this screen, it is probably set on SkyAlign.

When you tap "Connect & Align" are you presented with a UI that steps you through the alignment?  That is what you should see.

I will need to check this step the next time my scope is set up.

    Thanks, will advise.

    Bill,

I tried this last night.  I connected and tapped the orange icon and the resulting screen did not provide any way to set or change the alignment type.  Can you refer me to a screen image that shows what you expect I should see?

When I tap on "Connect and Align" it wants to do a 10 step alignment starting with whatever object I've highlighted on the screen. I cannot see how to get to normal SkyAlign. Why isn't that the default??

Can anyone answer me?  This product does not seem to allow me to do a Skyalign.

    Mark,

Can you post a series of screen captures showing what you see?

    1. Screen shot of Telescope Setup Settings

    2. Screen shot of scope control panel when about to tap Connect & Align

    3. Screen shot of the first screen asking you to start aligning.

The product most certainly lets you do a SkyAlign. You most likely have something misconfigured.
