2001 nexstar GPS. Wi-Fi capable through wifi2rs232. Skysafari can connect to scope but scope not responding. Everything works fine through my laptop running nexremote and stelarium. Wanted hands free from iPhone but can't seem to get it to work. As stated older nexstar with original not upgradeable HC. is there any hope?

Keiron Smith Hi Andrew,
What firmware are you running in the hand controller? The baseline requirement for Celestron support in SkySafari 4/5/6 is Celestron firmware version 4.0 or higher, which is basically everything sold since 2008. This excludes the older Nexstar GT series, the original Celestron Nexstar series and the Celestron Ultima 2000. Note, the GT hand controllers can possibily be replaced with newer versions that will then work with SkySafari 4/5. Consult a Celestron dealer for more information.
Thanks!

Andrew LaFosse I purchased Sky safari pro 6. I understand that this will not work with my scope now. I didn't read the fine print for the controller bit. If I understand correctly from other users of sky safari version 5 worked with the scope that I have is there anyway to acquire it of IOS rather than version 6. If I am in error and this will not work just let me know.

Keiron Smith Hi Andrew,
The baseline requirement for Celestron support in SkySafari 4/5/6 is Celestron firmware version 4.0 or higher. So, 5 would not work. Neither would 4. 3 would work, but its no longer for sale, and its not compatible with iOS 11. Sorry.

Keiron Smith A working solution would be to install Starry Night Pro 7 on Windows and use ASCOM to connect and control your Celestron Nexstar GPS. Any telescope control program that uses ASCOM will probably work with your scope. You might also try Stellarium.

Bill Tschumy You could also look into buying a new hand controller.

Lemmingfactory A new hand control will solve the problem. I can confirm that SkySafari 5 (Android) works with the NexStar GPS using the NexStar+ hand control; plus firmware version 5.22.3280 seems to work best with the older mount. SkySafari version 4 (Android) is compatible with the older 1.6/2.2 original NexStar GPS handset (also confirmed). If the telescope control code is shared with Android, the iOS versions should have similar handset compatibility.
