SkySafari 6 Pro | How To Filter Astronomical Objects By Distance? (Answer: Use The Planner)

I think it would be neat (educational) to have some sort of way (e.g., a dial widget or something else) to control whether an object is visible based on its distance. Ex: see the stars, clusters, nebular, and galaxies within 1000 ly, 1001 ly, .... 10,000ly, 10,100ly, ... 2,000,000ly, 2,500,000 ly, etc). In Starry Night you can zoom out of the Earth and see what objects exist within a certain radius, but it would be nice to know what is visible from earth within the specificed distance. Use cases: understand how close visible stars are, see the filamentary structure of the cosmos, etc.

If not in SkySafari, it would be nice to have this feature in Starry Night...

Thanks for all the great work!

    Hi Stephen,

This feature is already available in Both SkySafari 6 Pro and Starry Night Pro 7.  In SkySafari use the planner:

In Starry Night use the Advanced Find.

    Thanks!
