How To Find Astronomical Dusk/Dawn? (Answer: Select The Sun -> Show Sun's Object Info -> See Entry For Astronomical Dusk)

Dear SS,
I wanted to thank you for the depth of knowledge you have put into this app. As such it is my only recommendation for app based software for amateur astronomy. Really a best quality and value for its information. The only question I have is; is there a setting to find out Astronomical Twilight? Being able to plan observations on when complete darkness is imparative to planning a night’s observation. Again please let me know if there are setting to accomplish this and will let my local and national chapters know of this.

    Wes,

    Thanks for the kind words.

Yes, it is easy to find out astronomical twilight (or dusk).  Select the Sun, either by clicking on it or by choosing it from Search > Sun & Planets, and then show the Sun's Object Info.  This will have entries for  Civil Dusk (6º below horizon), Nautical Dusk (12º below) or Astronomical Dusk (18º below).  By tapping the clock icon to the right, you can quickly set the chart time to that time.

Bill following your directions there is no mention of twilight or dusk searching Advanced Find, Quick Find and other find boxes never reveals any result. To be specific having a Twilight by date table helps to plan my photo sessions. Yes I can that data elsewhere but it seems I must be missing something here not to find it in SN8 Sorry for such a basic question.

    Hi Randall,

Bill's reply refers to SkySafari 6.

Please review the Starry Night Help > User Guide > search for Advanced Find (this feature is only available in Starry Night Pro and Pro Plus).

If you want to suggest improvements to the Advanced Find feature you can do so here:

Starry Night | Version 8 Software Programs

    Thanks!
