On Windows, How Do I Add My Scope To The List Options In The Configure Panel? (Answer: Install Your Scopes Ascom Driver)

I'm totally new to computer control so I've got a basic question. I have win 10, starry night 7 pro plus and a celestron avx mount. I've connected usb to the

mini usb on the nexstar hand control. In the telescope control menu, configure,it gives me several choices . Ive already got .NET active,do I select that option or one of the others?

    Hi John,

Starry Night Pro Plus 7 and SkySafari 5/6 Pro share the same telescope control setup options.  So, the following post is perfectly relevant to your setup as well.

    https://support.simulationcurriculum.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/115009589628-SkySafari-5-Plus-on-OS-X-Celestron-Evo-8-StarSense-USBserial-Only

Note, you need to choose "usbserial" from the connection type options.  If you don't have that option then you have not installed a valid OS X driver for your USB-to-Serial cable.

Please read the post above and let me know if anything needs clarifying.

    Thanks!

Sorry, John, if you're on Windows then that post I linked is not relevant to you.

On Windows, you need to have Ascom Platform installed (which should have been installed along with Pro Plus 7).

On Windows, you need to install a Celestron Ascom driver.  You can get the driver here:

    http://download.ascom-standards.org/drivers/Celestron(6.0.6338)Setup.exe

It is hosted on this webpage here: http://ascom-standards.org/Downloads/ScopeDrivers.htm

On Windows, once the Celestron driver is installed, you will have an option to choose "Celestron" in the configure panel.

    Thanks!

Thanks. I now  see the celestron option. However, the readme file states..."some mounts ( of which avx is listed)   have guiding implemented by the motor controller rather than the ascom driver.......this should be more accurate as it doesnt rely on the PC for timing information...   So do I still choose the celestron option ? thanks john

    Hi John,

You will have to consult with Celestron about that.  And, please post here what they tell you.  We are not writing the code for the AVX motor controller, nor Ascom.  So, I can not say what is right for your scope in this situation.

    Thanks!
