Some mistakes in work of the program (bugs) Sky Safari 6 Pro

1. If I establish "The equatorial coordinates" in the menu and I choose the basic "equatorial plane" in the field of view (telescope+eyepiece, telescope+CCD camera), then all the same the field rotates on horizontal coordinates (around Zenit). It isn't right. The parties of a field of vision have to be focused on the equatorial coordinates.

2. If I choose "The equatorial coordinates" in settings and at the same time I note "to show the horizon" (in the form of the line, transparent/opaque area, a panorama), then it all the same in such mode isn't shown. He is shown only in "Horizontal coordinates". To make possible to show the horizon in any kind and in the equatorial mode of orientation.

3. The program reports about updating more than 800 thousand objects of Solar system and downloading about 120 Megabytes. But it is a lie. I have manually counted quantity of objects in the field 10 by 10 degrees an ecliptic plate. It has turned out them 89. if the of objects (asteroids and comets) exists about an ecliptic a layer of 20 degrees and 360 degrees, then such objects can't be more than 13 thousand. We will add it is admissible about 4 thousand artificial satellites of the earth and 3000 (we will allow) comets from "SOHO Cloud" (Ra 6h55m Dec -12o 36') that these objects well any more 20-25 thousand can't be in any way!

4.Why SOHO comets forming "a cloud of comets" are necessary? Only prevent viewing of the card. These are "disposable" comets which will visit Solar System only once. Most of them have removal more than 30 astronomical units. Weak so that you won't make out even in Hubble. These comets for the fan of astronomy don't bear any value. Unless to simulate their pass about the Sun in the past at the time of opening of their SOHO. Can move away them and to add some real and relevant objects (weaker asteroids of the main belt, near-earth asteroids, periodic comets) to a vacant place of the catalog?

5.If to look at the galaxy of M108, then behind her we see still galaxies (PGC 4096870, PGC 4550815). But on quite large photo of this galaxy I haven't noticed hints on even any galaxies behind it. The designated galaxies - are real, or there is some mistake in PGC bases?

6.Ovals of area of the Small and Large Magellantic Cloud rotate with change of vising of the map. It shouldn't be. The position angle of an axis of an ellipse of an oval has to be constant. And squares of dark nebulae too.

7.On dark nebulae - whether it is impossible to improve somehow their portrayal in the long term? Can be in the 7th version of the program. As an example - a grey dashed line with real contours as at bright nebulae (I can provide the sketch of the vision). In such look "Squares of areas" plainly nothing is clear. You will be the first-ever planetarium in which the issue with dark fogs is handled on five.

I have forgotten to add. Add please multilingual support to your program. You significantly lose the market and her popularity in the world. In particular hard to people with exotic languages (Japanese, Chinese, Indian, Indonesian, Spanish, German, Korean and others). For example 20 leading countries on the population and all developed countries of the European Union. I am a Russian and from Russia. These are billion/hundred millions people. Thus it is possible to output significantly upward your application. And it will be very good. To employ the translator - single small expense. To receive in addition growth of downloadings many times - it is invaluable.

    Michael,

Sorry that no on has responded to you post before.  It somehow fell through the cracks.  I will try to answer your questions.

    1. I'm a little confused by what you are doing.  Did you choose "Equatorial Coordinates" from the Settings > Coordinates screen?  That will only affect how the chart is drawn.  It will have no effect on the FOV indicators.  I don't know what you mean by "basic "equatorial plane" in the field of view".    The type of mount you choose is what affect whether the FOV rotates in different parts of the sky.  If you choose an equatorial mount then it will rotate such that North always points to the north celestial pole.  I don't think there is a bug here.

    2. We only draw the horizon when in Horizon coordinates.  If we drew is in Equatorial coordinates it would slant at strange angles (and even be upside down).  Some people confuse Equatorial coordinates with drawing an equatorial grid in Horizon coordinates.  The latter can be set up in Settings > Grids & Reference.

    3. We are not lying.  There are over 800,000 solar system objects in Pro's database.  What is draw on the chart is governed by the field of view and the Solar System limiting magnitude you have set.  If you set your mag limit to "Unlimited" then you will see everything we draw by default.  However, there are still very many other asteroids we only draw if it is the "selected" object.  If we really tried to draw the almost 800,000 asteroids the app would come to a complete standstill.

    4. I don't understanding what you are asking.  We have all the comets that are in the Minor Planet Center's database.  Why should we exclude some?

    5. As far as we know these are real galaxies.  It looks like they would easily be lost in the other arms of M108.  We don't have any way to check the validity of the entries.  We just plot the objects where the PGC catalog says they are.

    6. We will look into this.  I agree it does seem strange.  I think it must have something to do with the large size of the object.  This doesn't happen with smaller galaxies.

    7. We just don't have the outlines of the dark nebulae.  If you know of a source for these, we love to know.

    8.  We have partially translated SkySafari to French, German and Spanish.  It is a huge process.  We realize there is more marketshare out there but we just don't have the manpower to do a full translation quicker.

    I appreciate your comments.

    For the third question:

I set and have mag limit to "Unlimited" in Solar System Object.

Let's understand together. I give a card screen with ecliptic coordinates 0.0, 0.0. Brought a piece of sky 10x10 degrees. With manual counting in the planetarium (marked with red dots and apparently one forgot to count: -)) it turned out that on this piece of sky the program displays 88 objects (comets and asteroids). Then we have a scrum with an ecliptic on a smaller scale. It can be seen that the concentration of objects on the ecliptic is maximum, and then goes down. Assume that the bulk of the objects exist around the ecliptic -20 to 20 degrees. Total layer 40 degrees. Yes, there are objects and even behind the -30 degree area, but there are far fewer. And to the 30 degrees themselves is already much less than on the ecliptic itself. Therefore, this value will be considered correct.

The total can be considered the sky in such a case with some tape 360 degrees Х40 degrees (in reality the area is even slightly smaller). Bearing in mind that we have a site of 10x10 degrees, to calculate the total value of objects it is necessary to divide by 10 these figures.

36х4х88=12672 objects. Add to this other objects - planets and their satellites. Let us allow about 1000 (in real of course much less... it is possible and piece by piece). And add the ISZ, which are much smaller than asteroids and comets at times (according to the map of the sky). Let's conditionally allow 4000. Total get at best about 18tys. all possible objects. Well, let 's say we got it wrong... And let us accept a very upper estimate of 20 thousand objects. Well, in no way by the logic of things 800 thousand doesn 't come out! This is 40 times our estimate and therefore there should not be 88 objects on the 10x10 degree map, but a minimum of 3500! You will be tired to count.
