Latest Starry Night 7.6.4 Update Deleted My Equipment List (Temp Solution: Latest Update Has Been Rolled Back)

Relates to Starry Night Pro Plus 7.6.4.1469

After applying the latest update my equipment list has gone.  When I go to Edit Equipment List there is nothing listed.  I try add new from List and again empty.

Has anyone else experienced this?

    This also happened to me.

I downloaded the latest update and afterwards most of my equipment list was lost. It did keep my CCD cameras. But nothing else. All the telescopes, eyepieces, barlows and so on were lost.

The version is Starry Night Pro 7.6.4.1468

    Hi Ron, David,

I'm really very sorry.  Do you have a backup of your Starry Night Prefs folder?

We are not sure at this time what happened.

    Apologies.

First step I took was to reinstall Starry Night just in case something happened during the update.  I reentered my equipment list and then performed the latest update.  The equipment list disappeared again.  I tried restoring the prefs folder but that did not help.  I can see the content of files if I open them but Starry Night doesn't read them.

I'm in the same situation as Ron and David.

I can see my data in prefs files but SNP7 can't show them.

I reinstalled the previous version, refuse the update and everything is fine now... (firts time I reinstalled, I did the update and can't see my equipment).

    Hi All,

    Just to be clear.

    1. Does the update delete your equipment list text files?  And then you are restoring/replacing them from backed up text files?
    2. Or, after applying the update the equipment list files are still there, and complete, as before, but just not read into the program?

    Thanks!

Sorry I couldn't respond sooner.  Option 2 - files were there but not read.

Earlier this afternoon I was able to remote in to my observatory (after Keiron's response), started SNP7 and it reported an update.  I ran this which rolled back my SNP7 to 7.6.3.  My equipment was back.

I just started SNP7 again and it reported an update.  I ran this and now only my DSLR is visible, no other equipment.

    Update!

Fingers crossed this can be patched easily and there is no real loss of data.  So, far, based upon your reports, and my own tests, the files are still there, just not being read in by the 7.6.4 app update.

I'll be working on it tomorrow, and will update again as soon as the origin of this issue is known.

    Thanks for your patience.

    Good to hear.

We knew the data was still there; just wasn't being read. Assumed it wouldn't be a major bug.

    Thanks for all your help.

    Hi Guys,

We've got a fix in place, that we're going to release first to a beta.  Would anyone here be interested in testing the beta.  We could use your confirmations, and in you can spend a day or two hammering away on the app, to see if you can find anything else significantly broken, that would be very helpful too.

    Thanks!

    Keiron,

I've installed the beta version and so far it looks good. The equipment list is back and everything else I've tried is working fine. I will keep using it for the time being and let you know if I run into any other issues.

    Thanks, David

    Hi David,

Are you running 7.6.5?  Thanks for taking a close look at the beta!

On the beta download site there is a Pro 7 ver 7.6.5.1495.  I use Pro Plus 7 and the latest beta is ver. 7.6.4.1467 - I assume you want us to test the pro version, and any differences to Pro Plus are not  involved, or addressed later?

    Keiron,

I have been using the beta for a few hours today and not found any issues.  I installed on a clean machine so there were no residual settings or data from a previous installation.  Because of this I had to populate the equipment list from scratch and all data was retained.  In fact, it was an improvement because the list in the search pane on the right was not pre-populated with sample equipment, as in my previous installation.  When using the menu Edit => Edit Equipment list the option to add From List... was still there and worked flawlessly, as did the New... button.

I have been working through other features and found no problems.  I have not tested communication with my telescope (yet) as this machine is not currently in my observatory

I will continue to work with this version as time permits.

    Keiron,

I am running Starry Night Pro version 7.6.5.1495. This is the pro version, not the pro plus version.

And so far everything is good. I have not pushed it too hard though but the basic stuff all seems to be working fine.

Unless anyone has any showstoppers to report here we're going to build the final SN7 7.6.5 public release on Monday morning.

Thanks to everyone who has helped with the SN7 testing.

And, we are now going to start beta testing SN8 this week - we will need everyone's help beta testing this major development release as well!

    Keiron,

I have not found any issues in testing version 7.6.5.

I will definitely download and beta test SN8.

Sorry to jump on this thread but having just been notified of the 7.6.5 update I installed it - and now SN7 doesn't exist on my machine!  The executable starrynight.exe (and almost everything else in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Starry Night Celestron 7) folder has been deleted but not replaced by the updater.

System is Starry Night Celestron 7.6.3 1377 keEW on Windows 10 Home
