Error: Code Execution Cannot Proceed Because MSVCP140.dll Was Not Found

This morning I received a message to upgrade my Starry Night 7 software.
When I clicked "Yes", the upgrade files downloaded and I rebooted my PC.
However, when I clicked on the SN7 icon, I received four error messages:

"Code execution cannot proceed because MSVCP140.dll was not found"

I received the same error message for the VCRUNTIME.dll, and
VCRUNTIME140.dll.

Has anyone here had a similar problem?

Thank you,

Roy Troxel

    Hi Roy,

Please delete the current version of SN7.  Then download a new installer using your download links.

What is your purchase order number?

    Thanks!

    Hello Keiron,

I seem to have a similar issue. On my new windows-machine i get the same error messages as Roy mentions above. I started out with downloading a new installer-file but to no avail. Because i bought an update (some time ago) from SN6Pro to SN7Pro i thought that it might be dependent on an installation of SN6Pro on the present Windows10 machine. So i dug up the old disk and tried to install SN6Pro, which from the look of things and messages seemed to run alright, but in the end i can not find the program. Anyhow if i run the SN7Pro installer again it still gives these .dll error messages.

The download instructions say that you will be prompted to enter Name and Registration number after the download, but that sounds a bit odd. Anyway, after downloading i had the downloaded file (without any further prompts) as i would expect and also in the process of running the installer i was not prompted for credentials.

    Thank you,

    Eric van der Velde

    Hi Keiron,

I got the program working. I am not at home in the world of Windows 10 but i found the mentioned .dll's somewhere else (a hidden folder: C:\Users\Me\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneDrive\a large number ) and copied them to the Starry Night folder under Program Files (x86).  Now clicking SN7Pro-shortcut started up the program and it did prompt me for Name and Registration.

    Cheers,

    Eric

For anyone else read this the missing MSVCR140.dll can be downloaded here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=48145

Eric's fix did not work for me. I do not have the location he found.

    Hi Raydsky,

I found the two missing .dll's in a hidden directory, C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneDrive\, clicked around there in the subfolders. To see it one should activate something like 'show hidden items' under the menu 'view' in your filemanager ( i am working on Linux normally so i cannot tell exactly now). Maybe that will be of any help? Furthermore i did that on Windows10. From memory i think you will find the destination folder under the directory C:\Program Files(x86) there is another one next to it called just 'Program Files'

    Greetings Eric

    Hello!

I followed Eric's suggestion by finding the missing files (MSVCP140.dll and VCRUNTIME140.dll) and copying them into the Starry Night 7 Folder I have in my Program Files, but I still got the same error messages when trying to start up the program. Tried reinstalling twice, same error messages, also have tried re-downloading several times and I think I'm about to reach the limit. Help please, I need this program for a college course!!

    Hi Joy,

Sorry to say I have no further suggestions. You do have the Starry N folder under Program Files (x86) ?  The distinction with just Program Files is relevant, but i asume there is not a Stary N folder in there.
