How Is The New Observed/Not Observed Feature Supposed To Work And Why Have All Comet Catalog Numbers Changed By 1? (Answer: Comet Issue Needs Path To Reproduction)

Gentlemen,

I have noticed two bugs in the newly-released version of SS6 for Android:

(1) "Observed/never observed" feature in observing list is not working, except for observations associated with that list.  I can display "unobserved" for a list and then choose individual items on the list, which will show observations from the info page ("show observations"), but they are designated as "not observed" in the list view.

(2) All of my comet observations have had their catalog numbers changed by one.  So Comet 46P is showing as 45P, 38P is showing as 37P, etc.  Interestingly, when exported in OAL from LiveSky, the catalog numbers are correct.  They are also showing correctly when viewed in LiveSky.  But they are displaying incorrectly in the SS6 app itself.

I have these issues on two devices: a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 running Android 7.0 and a Samsung Galaxy S10+ running Android Version 9.

    Chris,

    1. This is how it is designed to work.  The Observed / Not Observed only applies to observations attached to the given list.

    2. This we will have to look at.  It sounds very strange.  I'll get back to you later today.

Can you explain more about where you see 46P displayed as 45P?  Is this in the observing list itself or is it in the name when you view the observation?  I have not been able to immediately reproduce this but I'm not sure I have a list with previous comet observations in it.

Bill, thanks for responding. Regarding #1, I had thought that this new feature was implementing the "never observed" request from the feature request forum. Making that filter apply to all observations would make it dramatically more useful.
Regarding #2, the comet numbers are displayed incorrectly when viewing the observations. It affects every comet observation, and every one has its number reduced by 1. I saw it with half a dozen observations, covering several different comets observed on different dates. So "21P" is shown as "20P," "46P" is shown as "45P," an so on. The app therefore displays a totally different comet than the one observed, but as I noted above, it displays and exports correctly from Livesky. I agree, it's very strange.
    Thanks again.

Chris, which Galaxy tablet do you have  9.7" SM-T813 or the 8" SM-T713 ?

My 8" crashes when i click on a lunar feature whereas my 9.7" doesn't.

After 3 crashes Google play canceled my transaction and refunded my money.

After I delete a few suspect apps from my 8" I'll try to reload sky safari 6 pro again and see if the problem persist.

If you have the 8" I'd be curious to know if yours crashes too when you select a crater on the moon.

    thanks Jeff

Jeff, I have the 9.7", and it does not have any problems with selecting lunar craters.  I also tried it on my phone (Galaxy S10+) without any problems.  Good luck with finding the problem.

Thanks Chris, I was hoping I wouldn't have to do a reset.   From what I know the 2 tablets use the same cpu and gpu, and mine have the same memory.

Good to hear it at least runs on the 9.7.   I didn't have time to test the telescope interface, Googles 2 hour return policy doesn't give much time to test an app especially one so complex.

    Chris W--

It seems there was some confusion on the original request in the Feature Requests.  I had initially intended for there to be a way to hide objects that had been observed when doing a planner search, as I often don't want to plan my night around objects I've already observed.  Bill said that was much harder to do in the following thread about this:
