Skysafari 6 All Star Polar Align Not Showing Up (Solution: Workaround Found - Read On!)

I am able to do an  All Star Polar Align (ASPA) when using sky portal. However I cannot do an ASPA in Skysafari 6, even though I have "Wedge" checked, I am using Celestron Nexstar scope and choosing Celestron Wi-Fi as my scope in skysafari 6. Any help would be appreciated as I prefer skysafari 6 to celestron sky portal.

    Steve,

Are you running SkySafari 6.4.0?  That is the first release that had this.

The code in SkySafari *should* be identical to that of SkyPortal.

Exactly what NexStar mount are you using?

Thanks for reply. Skys were clear so I had a chance to deal with this last night.

    1. Yes 6.4.0

    2. Can't speak to code being identical. But User Interface is different. For example on SkySafari 6 pro you turn the wedge on. On Celestron Sky portal you can choose StarSense with wedge as an alignment procedure.

In Skyportal When you choose the wedge align and alignment is complete there is a ASPA button in bottom left. On Sky Safari 6.4.0 using Celestron Wifi as scope, the ASPA button never appears. You cannot all star polar align with Nexstar even with wedge turned on.

For now I have to use SkyPortal when doing photography which is a bummer because it is not near as good as SkySafari Pro.

Or I can do it the old fashioned way ... with the celestron handset.

Let me look into this.  Something sounds wrong.

I'm confused by this statement.  In both cases you need to connect to the scope and then bring up the Celestron scope settings.  There are several options:

    • Align Using SkyAlign
    • Align Using Manual Align
    • Align Using Wedge Align

It seems you are saying you specify Wedge alignment differently in SkyPortal.

I just tested this in SkySafari and I certainly got the final alignment screen indicating the polar alignment deviation and giving the option to do an ASPA.

No just opposite... sky safari 6 has a button that is wedge or not wedge. When choosing Celestron WiFi you Can only choose auto or manual align. But when you check wedge toggle button it appears to work because the note says point telescope south. It just doesn’t finish with the ASPA option. Sky portal allows you to choose Align using wedge align and works great. So on SkySafari 6 you if choosing Celestron Wifi as a scope the ASPA is never an option.

Can you send me your procedure? ... did you choose Celestron WiFi as scope

Where are you seeing an option to choose Wedge or Not Wedge?  There are many options in the Celestron code, but I don't recall that.

What type of Celestron mount are you using?

I'm not doing anything special.  I use Celestron Wi-Fi as the mount type and just check "Align Using Wedge Align" in the mount setup.  It sounds like you don't have that option until you check this mysterious "Wedge" button.

Finally clear skies ... in Skysafari 6 you click Celestron logo and choose “starsense wedge align enabled” .... at end of alignment the button ASPA does not appear ... however I found a workaround .... there are dots right of telescope controls that pop up ASPA ... so all works! I appreciate your time and help.

    Steve,

Glad you found the workaround.  I still would like to understand why this is not appearing for you, but it is not my highest priority item right now.
