How To Configure Starry Night Pro 8 On Windows 10 + SkyFi 3 (Answer: Read On!)

I am running StarryNight-8-Pro on a Win10 laptop and am trying to control a NexStar-5SE (USB) scope using a SkyFi module. The ASCOM configuration window asks for a Port # but the window will not accept any keyboard inputs.

I have the telescope aligned and the SkiFi connected to the HC with a USB cable. This is the same setup I use with SkySafari-6-Pro which works well.

I installed the ASCOM driver for Celestron from the ASCOM download page.

Is there something in addition to ASCOM that needs to be installed?

  If then "configure" button is pressed, the screen freezes. If "configure" is skipped and "connect" is pressed, it will connect but the direction buttons do not work properly.

  Progress.

  1. Align scope

  2. Plug USB cable into computer

  3. Start SNP8. The cursor will be a hand.

  4. Connect from 'Telescope Control Panel'. Connect box will say 'Disconnect'.

  5. Delete both the small and the large control panels with the red X in the upper right corner. Cursor will be an arrow.

      Wait approx. one minute for the large control panel to close.

  *6. When both panels have closed, the hand cursor returns, the screen and menus are active and the GoTo works.

        I haven't found a way to disconnect other than "Exit".

  WiFi/SkyFi still does not work. screen freezes as before.

  When would be a good time to remote the computer?

   

  My observations are:

  SNP8 will connect with either the USB cable or the SkiFi.

  The problems occur immediately after the connection is made.

  With cable there is a delay of one to three minutes before the screen becomes active and useable. With the SkyFi there is a delay of 5 minutes to never.

  When a connection is made with SkyFi and after a wait of 5 min or more, the response to the cursor is very slow, GoTo will work two or three times after which the HC screen becomes a blank, grayish rectangle and the screen freezes.

  Also, when the HC screen grays out, the VSP is deleted.
