Why Do I Get A Connection Failure Message Using SkySafari 6 Pro + Celestron CGEM? (Answer: Serial Cable)

I have tried connecting to my celestron cgem and keep getting connection failure with both my iphone x and my ipad pro.  I am using the first model of the skyfi . Trying to use wirelessly but the skyfi is connected to the hand control.

Sky Safari 6 Pro ver 6.5.0.1

Tried on both iPhone x ( ver 12.4) and iPad pro ( ver 1.2.3.1

Connection type (wired or wireless)
Trying to connect wireless the sky fi is connected to the hand
control (HC)

    Is the SkyFi connected to a Celestron hand controller RS232 port or USB port?

    What serial cable are you using?  Are you sure it is a Celestron-specific serial cable?

    In the Scope Setup > Communication Settings > SkyFi web page > what firmware are you running?

    Did you ever have a successful connection before when using this SkyFi + Scope setup? 

    Please attach a photo of the SkyFi connected to the hand controller.

    The  hand controller is an RS232 port, however, the db9 to rj11 connection is bad so I went and got another one from fry’s electronics.  I see that you said it needs to be a Celestron specific serial cable.  Can I order a new one from sky safari? I vaguely remember getting a connection adapter from skyfi when I originally ordered. 

    When you ask about firmware, is it on the CGEM mount you are referring too or the firmware in sky safari?

    Also I am upgrading to a new scope next weak a Meade 14” F8 RCX 400, is there a serial cord for that because I only see two cords for Meade on the site,  The lx 200 ?

    You can get the Celestron serial cable here:

    We sell Meade serial cables too.  But, please check with Meade about which serial cable is the correct one for your scope.  Again, you will need a Meade-specific cable.

    The firmware in the Celestron scope hand controller must be version 4 or higher.
