Can Starry Night 8 Control A Celestron Evolution, And Motor Focuser, On macOS? (Answer: Yes, Using SkyFi 3 Or USB Cable, Not Using Celestron WIFi, And With No Support Motor Focuser)

I currently use a Celestron Evolution 6 SCT with StarSense alignment and NexStar 5Mp cam.

I align and goto with SkySafari Plus on iOS. I plan to view and record on oaCapture on a MacBook Pro.

What I'd really like is if I only had to carry around one device to control and capture.

So my question is, will Starry Night (on OS X) control my Celestron Evolution 6 SCT telescope? And will it work with StarSense and the Celestron Motorised Focuser?

Or alternatively, is there a cam that works with astro software on iOS?

  Hi Wayne, 

  Starry Night on macOS will control your Celestron Evolution but not using Celestron WiFi.  You would need our SkyFi 3 or a direct USB cable from Mac to Evo.  Motor focusing is not supported on macOS.

  Hi Keiron - Assuming that the Windows version of SN8 SE can control Celestron Wi-Fi, any idea if anyone has tested it running in virtual Windows on a Mac using Fusion/Parallels ?

  Might give it a try later today.

  Starry Night on Windows 10 will control your Celestron Evolution but not using Celestron WiFi.  You would need our SkyFi 3 or a direct USB cable, and Ascom.

  Starry Night 8 does not support Celestron WiFi.
