Why When Updating SN8 Daily Data Do I Get This Error: A Connection To The Update Site On The Internet Could Not Be Established. You Must Be Connected To The Internet To Use This Feature? (Answer: User Profile Needs Permission To Write To Sky Data Folder)

i have starry night setup in win10 ltsc, once i choose update file  in menu, always pop-up window:"A connection to the update site on the internet could not be established. You must be connected to the internet to use this feature",but my interenet work good 。。

according to these solution,i pretty sure  i done everythings that solution plan request.. but  it doesn't work out .. and also i am not Mac user .. how to  deal with it in win10 ...

solution detail:

Mac users of Starry Night V5 will encounter the error message "Unable to connect to update site. An internet connection is required " when attempting to download new data files. The files for download include the Calendars (updated once a month) and Comets, Asteroids & Satellites (fresh files posted daily). Unfortunately, given changes in OSX 10.7 Lion, these data files will now have to added manually. Fortunately, adding the files is a simple procedure. First, you need to locate the Sky Data folder

RIght click the Starry Night program and select Show Package Contents/Contents/Resources/SkyData

1) Calendars (updated once a month)
Put this file inside: Sky Data/Calendar

www.siennasoft.com/updates/data/calendar/current.php

2) Comets, Asteroids, Satellites (fresh files posted daily)
Put these files inside: Sky Data and replace the existing ones

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Please either update to 8.0.6 using Help > Check for application updates OR delete starry night pro plus 8.0.2.1718 and reinstall from your download links.

    Thanks!

Really? do I have to uninstall the program? why do I have to have admin rights to update the datafiles? if I log into the laptop with the admin user, no issues, so I made my user an admin, now I just get an error, the interenet update failed or was canceled by the user. what is the solution to the issue? Ver 8.0.6.1978lLEW

The solution for SN5 can not be used for SN8.  You can not modify the main SN8 app.

Please delete the app, and reinstall again.

Check for data updates, and let me know what happens.

The only reason I posted in this thread was that I did not see other thread for SN8, so let me rewrite my question.

If I login to the laptop as the laptop administrator, the data files are updated, no problem. If I login as my regular user (I should not have to be the admin to run SN8) then the problem comes up. Is seems to be a permissions issue, and I am perplexed as to why this is happening.

Also, when I update the data files as an administrator, the regular user does not have access to the data file...

    Can you explain?

    Thanks

    Data files are stored here:

    https://support.simulationcurriculum.com/hc/en-us/articles/231540047-Importing-SN6-data-to-SN7-SN8-Or-How-I-learned-to-stop-worrying-and-love-Sky-Data-overrides-

Looks like your regular user profile does not have permissions to read, write & edit files in the Sky Data folder.  If you can give your regular user profile those permissions then probably the issue will be eliminated.

    Thanks!
