When SkySafari Shows The Sun Is +69 Degrees, 27', 04.4" Above The Horizon, What Does This Actually Mean? (Answer: Those Are Minutes And Seconds Of A Degree)

Hello, my name is Isaac, and I've started using Sky Safari Pro 6 this year, and it's absolutely amazing! I just have one simple question in regards to the horizon. When it shows the sun is +69 degrees, 27', 04.4" above the horizon, what does this actually mean? I know it means the sun is 69 degrees above horizon, but what do the other numbers mean? I notice these numbers become greater as the Sun's altitude becomes higher. What do these numbers represent and what do they mean? Thank you

    Hi Isaac

Those are minutes and seconds of a degree. There are 60 minutes per degree, and 60 seconds per minute, so +69 27' 04.4" is nearing 69.5° which could also be stated +69 30' 0".

    Hope this helps!
