Sadly, the list of supported mounts does not show the Ioptron cem 40 mount. Mention is made of connection using the ASCOM utility. However, I would rather have a direct connection since that would be one less thing to worry about. I will be using Starry Nights 8 Pro. I do want to buy and find out it does not work

Have you looked at SkySafariAstronomy.com
On Windows, Ascom is required for all Starry Night telescope control.
On Mac, these are the direction connections - built-in Starry Night telescope drivers (the same as on SkySafari).
