I should have also said that I will be installing it on my iPad.
John,
SS6 Pro includes the UCAC5 star catalog with 29 million stars down to 15th magnitude. And with an in-app purchase you can get a total 109 million stars.
Thanks!
Hi Kieron,
Hey Keiron Smith Are we sure SS6 still includes UCAC4 with 5 for purchase? I'm fairly confident this was switched to GAIA stars with the UCAC data no longer being included. See Tim's explanation here:
https://support.simulationcurriculum.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360016841713-GAIA-DR-2-star-data-in-SkySafari
John-- Can you find the corresponding GAIA data for the star you're looking for? How about GAIA 4050989037475753216? You have to search it exactly as written, including the GAIA within SS6 pro. It's likely your star is included, but just as the more accurate GAIA distinction.
Hi Chris, thanks for that ! Yes that star comes up fine! Very good to know that the stars I am interested in are there in SS6 Pro.
What I need now is a lookup table to convert from the UCAC4 listing to the GAIA listing. How did you do it?
Thanks again.
Hey John-- Did I land on the correct star? I simply typed in the RA and DEC location of the star you provided (looked up on simbad) into SS6 and then zoomed in and clicked on the nearest star to that location.
Hi Chris,
I have no way to know really. I am looking at a converter in cosmos.esa.int just now.
I hope to create an observing list of the asteroid and the star, so on the night I can see the two come together as I watch the video feed.
Identifying the star will increase my level of confidence that I am in the right location.
Thanks again
Apologies, Chris is correct! We switched to GAIA stars!
