Sensor orientation incorrect in scope display. SkySafari 7

The scope display in SkySafari 7 is incorrect when used with sensors. I am using the new INDI telescope control (which is absolutely awesome), and was having a hard time figuring out why the orientation of the sensor in SkySafari 7 did not match the actual.  The orientation of the sensor (and OAG offset) behaves as if it's an Alt-Az telescope regardless of all other settings.

No scope connection needs to be made to show this behavior.  Simply create a field of view indicator under scope display using a telescope and sensor.  Make sure the "Show even if Not Connected to Telescope" checkbox is checked.  Center an object.  Then change the time.  The box rotates with the time as if it is an Alt-Az telescope and not an equatorial mount.

I use this both when imaging, and also when picking targets to decide what my sensor orientation should be.

Hi Kristopher.  Our plan is to add an "Orientation" setting to each individual FOV (currently it's only colour and rotation).  The way it works now:

+ If you are connected to a telescope and the mount type in the preset is set to equatorial - the FOV will orient in an equatorial direction.  You can test with the demo interface.  If that is not working with INDI, it would be a bug.

+ If you are not connected to a telescope, the FOV orientation is always Alt Az unless you change the sky orientation to equatorial by for example tapping the coordinates display in the status bar and changing the orientation to "Equatorial".

Thank-you for the explanation.  I look forward to the new behavior when we can set the orientation on each FOV.  That sounds better than assuming the sky orientation should be the same as the FOV orientation.

I think there is a problem with the INDI implementation.  There is no mount type preset to change when I connect to my EQ6-R Pro using INDI.  It is behaving as if it is connected to an Alt-Az mount.  Is SkySafari trying to auto detect somehow based on the mount parameters in INDI?

Thanks Kristopher - I'm not sure if we are recording the mount type once the INDI connection is made - i wrote a ticket for the dev team to take a look.  I should know more soon.

Hi Pedro,  This is still a problem.  At least with SkySafari 6 Pro Mac.  I don't think it has anything to do with INDI as I am not using INDI.  Under the Field of View Display Options you can set the rotation angle.  Under that, it gives you the option to set the Scope Display Coordinates, (Horizon or Equatorial).  If you change this option it has no effect.  The FOV indicator always displays in Horizon mode which is oriented 0˚ pointed to the zenith, which is correct when using an ALT/AZ mount.  When using an equatorial mount, 0˚ should always orient to the north celestial pole.  The software doesn't do this.

    Thanks,

    Jim
