Beta Testing SkySafari 6 (iOS Only) & SynScan WiFi - Read This To Participate!

Invitation to SkySafari (iOS) & SynScan WiFi Users:

Everyone here in the Community Forums (with an Apple iOS device) who is also a SkyWatcher/SynScan user is invited to participate in the beta-testing cycle.  Native support for SynScan WiFi in SkySafari 6 will mean only one iOS device is required to connect to and control your mount.

 

How to Apply:

Please reply here (in a comment below) if you can help us at this time.  Please outline your experience with SkySafari, including what versions of SkySafari you have run previously, what SkyWatcher/SynScan telescopes you are controlling, what kind of astronomy you are involved in, if you are a power user, etc.

The Process:

If you find bugs/issues with the implementation of native SynScan support please first review the current discussions in the beta-testing forum.  If your bug/issue has already been identified please comment on the existing post.  If your bug/issue has not been identified please create a NEW post in the SkySafari 6 | SynScan Beta Testing forum.

How To Follow The SS6 Beta Forum:

As part of your participation we would appreciate that you FOLLOW the SkySafari 6 | SynScan Beta Testing forum.  Following a forum means you will receive email updates when anyone creates a NEW post or comments/replies to one of the existing posts. This is important for two reasons.

  1. Following the forum ensures you receive email updates regarding all admin communications to the beta testers.  If admins make a post asking for assistance you will get an email update with that post.
  2. Following is also very important so that you have an on-going status report regarding bugs/issues identified, confirmed, requiring further testing, or have been resolved, etc.  This will help you stay on top of the overall process, and ensure you are not duplicating efforts where issues are already known and resolved.

Replying to Email Updates:

When you follow the SS6 SynScan Beta Testing forum you will receive email updates regarding new posts (and comments, if opted for).  Please do not reply to email updates using the "Reply" function.  Please first use the "View the comment" link to open the community forum post, then reply to the post.  

This point is crucially important - so please understand the image below (this an example of an SS6 Beta Testing email update as seen using my web browser Yahoo email account).

If you use the email update "Reply" function your reply will not be added to the community forum discussion.

In order to participate you will need to have TestFlight installed on your iOS device(s).  You can download and install TestFlight from this link here:

Please...

  1. SIGN IN or create account on this Simulation Curriculum support website.
  2. REPLY to this post (in a comment below) in order to apply to the SkySafari 6 | SynScan Beta Testing group.
  3. When invited to join the beta testing, download and install the iOS TESTFLIGHT app.
  4. FOLLOW the main SS6 SynScan beta testing forum to be kept up-to-date of any new posts (bug reports) and discussions thereafter (you get email updates).
  5. REVIEW previous beta testing discussions before posting your bug report.
  6. COMMENT on bugs already reported.
  7. Create NEW posts for bugs not yet reported.
  8. Follow the bug reporting GUIDELINES when reporting or commenting on bugs.
  9. Do NOT reply/comment to email updates.  Instead, VIEW the post first, then comment.

    Hi Stargazers,

    Looks like an oversight on our part, somehow 6.6.5.2 was built without the SynScanLink option.  6.7.0 does not have the option either.  So, we will have to make a new build.  I'll will ping you here when the new build is up and ready.

    Hello, I have a Skywatcher AZ-GTi with the latest firmware and motor Board 3.20.A5. Works great with my Windows computer. But I have had SkySafari 5 Plus & 6 Plus for my Iphone XR with IOS 13.4.1. On my SkySafari 6 Plus 6.7.0.1 using SynScan Pro 1.18.3.

    I get a connection failure, only using my Iphone XR and would like to test with TESTFLIGHT for the beta SS 6 Plus to see if it's working now?

    Hello,

    I would love to be included in the beta testing. I have used SkySafari with my Dob and Orion’s Sky-fi adapter, and most recently with synscan tethered to an old iPad.

    I have a 14” Orion SkyQuest XXg GoTo DOB with the synscan adapter...

    SkySafari 6 Pro ver 6.7.0.1

    SynScan Pro 1.18.3

    iPhone 8+  iOS 13.4.1

    iPad Pro 1st gen, (12.9”)

    Hello,

    I am brand new to this, happy to help from a total beginners' perspective. I will get SkySafari Pro 6 on an iPhone XR and will be using a HEQ5 Pro with Celestron 8XLT. I have not even set the stuff up yet.

    Have been stunned how far behind SkyWatcher and the like are with modern tech such as app connectivity to mounts, hand controller is like going back to the mid 90's, so if I can help I am all in.

    I am using a SkyWatcher Az-GTi. I use it mainly as a grab and go mount for visual and EAA (Sharpcap live stacking) with smaller telescopes. 

    I am new to using SkySafari Pro for controlling mounts, but I have experience using other planetarium software to interface with SkyWatcher SynScan Pro app. I currently have the SkySafari Pro app installed on iPhone 6 and iPad Pro 11 (2nd Gen).

    It would be great to join the beta!

    I have an EQ6 mount with SynScan WiFi adapter.

    Have been using SkySafari Pro + Synscan App on my Android phone.

    I am now switching to IOS - just installed SkySafari Pro on my Ipad. I also have some background in mobile app development.

    Hi there,
    I would like to do be involved with Beta testing the SkySafari (iOS only) & SynScan WiFi TestFlight.
    While I am experienced with IOS, I have only recently bought the Sky-Watcher telescope and begun to use it for planetary and deep sky astronomy. 

    My set-up is:

    • Sky-Watcher Star Discovery 150/750 with the built-in Synscan wifi adapter.
    • SkySafari 6 Plus, version 6.7.5.0
    • SynScan Pro 1.19.0
    • iPhone 6S, running IOS 13.7
    • iPad Pro 1st gen, (9.7”), running IOS 12.4.1

    • AZ GoTo SynScan Mount (motor controller 02.14.87)
    • AZ SynScan hand controller (firmware 03.09)
    • SynScan Wi-Fi Adapter
    • iPhone 8 with iOS 14.1
    • SkySafari Pro 6.7.6
    • SynScan Pro 1.19.0

    I also have an iMac with macOS Catalina 10.15.7 and SkySafari Pro 6.7.2

    I'm a hobbyist new astronomer with a few months of experience, but I know a good deal about setting up computers and devices.

    SkySafari pro 6.8.0.15

    ipad pro iOS 14.4.1

    Skywatcher az gti mount

    Latest synscan app release for iOS.

    Connecting mount via Skywatcher Synscan link then it opens synscan app to hand over. Then as synscan app does not run in the background, when using SkySafari the alignment is way out. The mount position a d app positions are our and will not align. Not possible to sync with this set up just repeated error messages.

    Connecting 2 iOS devices, synscan on one SkySafari on the other. Connect from SkySafari via skywatcher synscan (not link) and using IP address as for device running synscan app(always open) then all works well it seems. Goto’s accurate and syncing possible.

    When will SkySafari ever work on 1 device as it does on 2. Or is this not possible as synscan app does t run in the background?
