[Officially Released] How To Connect And Control Your Scope Via Native Support & SynScan WiFi (iOS Only)

6.6.5.1 of SkySafari Plus is available via iOS TestFlight beta testing app.

This version offers "SkyWatcher SynScanLink" as one of the mount options. If you choose this option, you can control their SkyWatcher (or compatible mount) through their SynScanLink wifi module.

1. In iOS (iPhone/iPad) Settings > Wi-Fi > connect to the SynScan WiFi network by selecting the module name which is usually something like:

SynScan_WiFi_xxxx.

2. In SkySafari 6 Plus > Settings > Telescope > Setup  > ScopeType > select:

SkyWatcher SynScanLink

3. In SkySafari 6 Plus > Settings > Telescope > Setup > Communication Settings > IP address & Port number

4. To get your IP Address:

In iOS (iPhone/iPad) Settings > Wi-Fi > choose the Info Button on the right side of the SynScan_Link wifi network, like this:

Get you IP Address from here:

5. Enter your IP Address like this:

6. Use Port Number: 11882

7. Then SkySafari > Main Menu > Scope > Connect

Same here. Testflight needs a code or a web link to enter the beta testing.

All your email addresses have been submitted to TestFlight, and it looks like the SkySafari 6.6.5.1 beta is now under 'review' again - I'm not sure why.

I think when the beta is approved by Apple you will all receive an email notification regarding TestFlight, access to the beta, and instructions on how to download.

Let's see what it looks like tomorrow.

    Thanks for the screenshots.

Ah, yes, this could be a possible reason indeed. I heard that due to coronavirus and less available workers, both Google and Apple app reviewing got slower on their side.

Update: I changed the ip Direction (192.168.4.2) for the Router IP address (192.168.4.1) and now is working! I did this because this is the Ip when I connect the telescope trrough the native app SynScan. More later...

But it doesnt work properly. It’s impissible to sync the mount using 1 iOS device. Both real world and mount directions are out and cannot be corrected. Well I haven’t found a way. When the handover is done on 1 device connected via synscan link the offset is there. When using 2 devices it is t and both real world and mount are virtually bang on. Also it seems synscan pro app dies not run in background. If you look in settings-general-background app refresh, it’s not there.

    Albut,

Are you following the instructions at the top of the post?

Where are those options shown in that post. I have the latest version of SS and using synscan link setting the options are not shown for ip or port. So only able to connect via synscan pro app which gives offset between mount position and real world tats not syncable. Here’s my options again.

    Hi
Like the last massage above by ‘Albut’, I also can’t see any ip nor port settings under ‘SynScan link’.
It does show those settings under ‘SynScan’, but it doesn’t connect to the mount.
With ‘SynScan link’ settings it does connect but crashes after the SynScan app is being suspended in the background.
Any help and instructions will be much appreciated.

The post [Officially Released] How To Connect And Control Your Scope Via Native Support & SynScan WiFi (iOS Only) has a new comment.

    Keiron Smith

    Albut,

Are you following the instructions at the top of the post?

Reply…You don’t get the screen shown with the Skywatcher Synscanlink protocol. THERE IS NO OPTION FOR IP ADD OR PORT NO. Check it out. The instructions are out of date and are confusing users.
